    Average is staggeringly pathetic in the US, if you consciously acknowledge that you could have done better and received a decent passing grade, that's a scary indicator of what the "average" might have been.

    Builders and the person looking to have something built aren't usually concerned with that either, they just want it designed and code complaint as cheap and quick as possible.

    You'd be surprised to see how many of the foreign OEMs have set up shop in Palo Alto/silicon valley to tap into the engineering talent here. Look up the Toyota Research Institute for one.

    My sister is in the hotel business, renovating old buildings into modern hotels. The amount of pushing on contractors she has to do just to get to code compliance sometimes is awe inspiring.

    We had a lot of students in one of my programs that were foreign and they were notorious for cheating. Cheating doesn't make good engineers, so if thats how things are back home in their schools, no surprise companies would come here to actually get things done.
