I'm looking at a 96 taco with the 3.4, 5 speed manual, 4x4 with under 100k on it. I understand KBB is really not applicable here and am going to be bidding against others. I haven't looked at the truck yet other than a few pictures, but its going to be at a local auction shortly. I know where it's parked and plan on going over and getting under it to check out the frame. From what I can see on the photos, the body has zero rust, even the bumpers have no rust on them. My son and I have both owned this generation of 4Runners, with his currently having 314k on it, so I'm familiar with the frame rust issues. Since this is a single cab, 3.4, 5 speed with such low miles, I'm really unsure what to plan for. I'd like to get it for under 7k but am not sure if thats even reasonable. Thoughts, opinions?

If the frame checks out buy it! Standard cab with the 3.4 / 5spd are pretty rare. If it's clean and well maintained with that low of mileage I bet it easily hits $10k.

Thank you both of you. If I get it, I'll definitely be back here with photos. I currently drive a 2006 sequoia with a 3 inch lift (billsteins in front, adjusted air suspension in back) on 285-70-17 BFG K02 tires and like the look and feel of the toyota 4x4.

Lack of body rust is not indicative of frame health on these trucks. Pleases investigate the frame carefully

Really depending on frame rust and overall condition and if it’s on the Internet.
    Run a carfax.
If it’s on the internet with buyers stamp I bet 10,000

Look at the rear shock frame area for rust Inside the frame Passenger side I particularly

If you get it under 7k, that's gonna be a really good deal. I'm with @FreshOldTaco, depending on what part of the country you are in, it could easily hit 10k, or higher.

I recently bought my 2000 2.7L 5 speed 4x4 with 77k miles for 8800. It has minor rust here and there and only a sprinkling of surface rust on the frame. The only issue was the transfer case was leaking, and the fluids and filters needed to be changed which I got fixed. I was the 2nd person of 3 to call the first and only day the ad was live. If it's really clean, I think you should expect to pay close to if not more than 10k. It depends on the seller though. It never hurts to have a pro check it out if the seller allows you, but if you do and it has a clean bill of health, it's worth it.

I did not win the bid on this truck. It ended up selling for 14,500 at auction in Lawrence today. I brought 10k and then found out it had more rust than I thought (holes behind the rear mud flaps, and it still sold for 14.5k. Unreal.
