Hey everyone. New Tacoma owner, '17 TRD Sport 4x, Sahara color. Pretty happy so far!

I'm looking for a locking fuel cap that either comes with, or can be tethered. Any suggestions?

I believe (pls correct me if I am wrong) that modern Tacoma’s have anti-siphon necks.

Are you trying to prevent stuff from going in your tank?

No, I work in a pretty rough area, and always put locking lugz and fuel caps on my vehicles. I just want one with a tether so I don't make the mistake of leaving it on top of a gas pump some time. Can't seem to find a locking cap with a tether that fits a '17 Tacoma. (Not sure if the same cap would fit all 3rd gen Tacomas or not.)

I've used Stant 10504 on several Tacomas. The 2020 Sport DCSB has one I just purchased but doesn't fit as well(tighter) as on previous Gen 3 Tacos. Threads on OEM cap are different, but locking cap does attach and lock. Haven't driven since install so will see if it throws a code.

Waiting for the Nerds to request (demand) a gas cap with fingerprint recognition.
I'm sure the subject has come up.

Or hey, how about when the vehicle is locked, as a security measure, the fuel system automatically switches to a Pre-Drive /Stand-By "Warm-Up" tank (= 1/4 Gallon)
The system switches over to the main tank, only when the FOB is in the vehicle, or the system senses the driver's injected micro-chip (ID/Enhanced Passport / Drivers License chip) in the buttocks.

Appears the same cap the dealer put in mine when i requested one when ordering the truck. So far a year no issues.

    Never had any issues.

you could also put the gas cap with no tether in the truck bed, so it would never be left behind.

Depending on the cap, you could also make a tether, with a little creativity.

I'd love to know the results when you test it out.

I've got the Stant and same version I used on my 1st Gen for 12 years and 140k miles. Never leaked, no CEL lights.

I'm in IT and I hate everything you just mentioned, lol. A mechanical locking cap would have some use without interfering with the function of the vehicle outside of losing the key, even if it's not something I would use.

Luckily the people you're talking about are buying Tesla.
