My receipt actually said 7.6 hours labor and they quoted me 6.5. The Toyota press release said 4-5. They also kept it longer than they thought they would. My dealer added a clamshell bushing and axel seal but not sure if that would have taken much longer. It could be Toyota’s press release is over-confident or that my dealer is a little slower/more thorough or a mix of both.

Wouldn’t be that shocking to me if dealers see this as an opportunity for a little extra profit. They figure most people don’t know it’s a 4-5 hour job so they can get away with charging for 6 or 7.

There should be a book rate, which is probably the 4-5. As they do more of them they will get quicker at it.

Most just quote off book rates but good ones charge less if it can be done more quickly

Appreciate it my man! My driveway is a bit deceiving as it sits higher than the surrounding lawn. Someone asked me earlier on this thread for a pic on flat ground, this is prob a better representation:

By chance, does anyone here know and can verify that the sensor in a TRD off-road is the same by part number of the one in this kit?

So I get can front and rears for at most 340 (with shipping) buy an AAL and come out around $500? Sounds crazy, I don’t care about the grill or recalibrating anything

Anyone with the 360˚ camera on 2020+ have any updates on how the camera looks post-install? Interior shots of the screen would be appreciated!

As an alternative, you can buy the Bilstein 6112 front and remote reservoir 5160 rear for a bit over $1100 with the 1" rear block or AAL. Just need to install yourself and get a front alignment.

Of course you won't have the grill in that cost but I'm confident you will have better suspension if that means anything to you.

    Mostly old man mods
I don see this being 9 hours unless the recalibration procedure is lengthy. I believe it was discussed that the dealers are sending them to an outsdie vendor. Either the vendor wants more money or the dealer wants to make more money on the vendor's work. I could do the shocks, block, grill and sensor in about 4 hours at a leisurely pace using jack stands, air tools, and a proper spring compressor.
A decent shop will put a two man team on it, on a lift, stands under the axel, use a cut off wheel on the old U bolts, one pulling the coil overs and moving he springs over to the new set, the other doing the back shocks and moving on to the grill and sensor. A smart shop would have a set on hand with coil overs pre assembled and just keep swapping the spring sets forward. Realistically, two guys could do it in 90 minutes (an hour if they swapped the springs forward) plus alignment and calibration. If you had a bunch of these kits going out the door, a lot of money could be made. Toyota probably has a standard labor time set for it. any good mechanic can beat that time, that's how they make money. No need to get greedy with 9 hours. Even a novice home mechanic could do it in less time aside from the alignment and calibration.
I once put a Rancho kit on a 90 truck I had that had new UCAs, shocks, leafs, brackets up the wazoo, brake lines, all new steering tie rods, bushings. It took me about 10 hours, by myself, and aside from the alignment. That kit was extensive. What's going on here, especially for an experienced mechanic, is not.

I’m pretty sure the part numbers for the fronts and rear separately are only one shock each.

There was the one earlier red TRD lifted DCLB in this thread, interested to hear of any other dealers comments on DCLB installs? Easy enough to buy the kit and install yourself, but seems likely things might evolve. Perhaps after a updated bulletin or similar.

That's what I did before the TRD Lift kit was a thing. Happy I did.

So did I and even though this TRD kit is now available, I'd still go the 6112/5160 route. Fortunately I'm able to swap out suspension myself without any issues and can see the lure for those that want to pay a dealer to complete the swap and retain that carrot (warranty).

Makes me feel pretty good that the dealer will warranty the TRD kit since the product I installed is identical in lift height and therefore should not present any warranty issues. Toyota would never warranty anything that would present problems down the road anyway, it would be a huge financial mistake. I had pretty much assumed this from my previous ownership experience with 425,000 miles of Tacoma use.

Would anyone here know if you can run aftermarket coils on these shocks to increase the lift up front? If so would any brand coil work?
