im currently using an older iMac (2011) which is definitely struggling when it comes to 4K video editing. But i'll chip away at it slowly but surely. I use proxy video footage that allows for easier editing. But that's also the reason why I need more storage.

 

They are all pretty reliable and have gotten way cheaper over the last few years.

I run a drobo 5n with dual parity.

Yep. 3 TB 7200 rpm. I’ve got one of them that’s going bad and I need to replace them one of these days. They are about 6 years old now

 

So Western Digital used to be the best of the bunch in terms of HDDs but they outsourced a bunch of their stuff to china, so if you get a drive from them with more than one platter, don't expect it to last long. I sent my 4tb WD black in twice before I gave up. They don't fix it, they just send you a refurb drive, which if you can guess, is just as shit. Not to mention sending the drive in is a hassle, if it's not packaged to their standards, they just return it.

So I have a junk 4tb sitting in the closet if anyone can figure out how to fix it DIY.

 

I've been having good luck with Seagate for the past 10 years. Most recent was a LaCie external drive which is equipped with a Seagate 7200rpm HDD. So far across the 6 Seagate units, I have not had any issues. But I know if you read the Amazon reviews for the Seagate ironwolf drives, or whatever they're called, you'll find a handful of people who think Seagate is the devil.

I have zero experience with Seagate, I'm all about SSD now. I think I may grab some kind of External HDD to backup pictures/media, but beyond that I use my computer mostly for gaming and so the SSD puts in work.

 

not sure i know a few people with older white runners but i cant remember all the names i know it wasnt ty because i think he went out to tuttle creek with patrick there is an older guy i meet awhile ago with a white clapped out sas 2nd gen runner but i havent seen him in a long time and i remember another late 90s one but i cant remember his name for the life of me

It was a frost white 4Runner. The guy said he just recently bought it from what sounded like a local guy.

 

After I had 3 WD external HDDs fail on my in 3 months time and losing everything, I have never owned another WD drive. I’ve run seagate for a long time with no issues

at this point, everyone should be using SSD (samsung or intel) unless you need large capacity. At the same time though, the life span is so much longer and more reliable it’s becoming hard to justify spinning disk unless you need 10s or 100s of TBs of space.
