Kenwood 6960 vs 9960

The price difference is pretty significant. I am wondering if i am missing any major differences to justify the 9960.

Seems like with the 9960 you get:

slightly larger screen (no big deal)
3D maps (sounds cool)
better EQ (not sure if I would notice this)

As far as the rest of my system, eventually I will upgrade the door speakers (not sure with what) and *maybe* put a sub in the back. But thats all down the road.

FYI, I already have the SWI thing for kenwood and a schoche double din.

 

nobody has experience with these HUs?

 

stick with the 6960, my friend has the new one 9960 and hates it, I bought jis old one the 8120 and its great, he says the new one is very slow to navigate through menus and screens compaired to the older models....

 

slow? he probably didn't update the firmware which most people are forgetting to do and complaining about the setup.

My cousin has the 9960 and its friggin sweet. I'm getting the 9960 once I get my new truck.

 

i HATE the fucking 9960. everyday i see it, i regret buying it. i've experienced so many problems with the unit. i've been wanting to make a video review of the thing so no one has to go through what i went through with it.

one major problem, the maps "locked" themselves, and now i can't get GPS to work. can't route anything, can't search anything, can't do anything in the "navigation" section.

yes, i'm fully upgraded with firmware and no, i didn't hack it.

the damn thing just sucks.

 

My 9960 has had no problems and is by far the sweetest head unit I have ever used. Its lightning fast except for a second delay on the touch buttons in the main scolling window to go where you want. You learn to not hit em twice and expect the lag there.

Definantly buy from an authorosed dealer so you dont have to worry about problems and can just get a new unit if you have any. THe only thing I have an issue with is sometimes it takes forever to voice search any location by name if its not common like Best Buy or McDonalds or something thats a huge chian. I also cant figure out how to save my time alignments. Most of the issues are resolved by reading the manual. I will try to compile a list of all the things the 9960 has over the 6960.

I also noticed you are in Houston Texas. You can see my 9960 whever you like. Where do you live and work? I live near the Gallaria and work in Jersey Village.

9960 allows bluetooth streaming of your MP3 audio from your phone... this alone I could not live without. Everyone I know can play their music by a simple 30 second procedure where they sync with my 9960 and play their tunes from their Driod phones.

Im sure there are more differences but these stuck out to me.

 

I'm not sure if the 9960's have it, but have you tried pushing the reset button?


I have a DNX9140 in the wife's car (first version with the Garmin nav) and it has about a 2 second delay when pushing any buttons during the first few minutes after startup...but after that, it's fairly snappy. If my super impatient wife is not bothered by it, then it passes as fast enough for 99% of the people on this earth. lol But this was after a couple minor issues that were easily fixed with the reset button.

Thankfully, the newest firmware has eliminated all issues that we've encountered since then...

 

I love my 6960, does everything I need and is quick

Plus it's nice to have the buttons you use a lot and a volume knob

 

The 9960 has buttons you use a lot on the bottom and I use my steering wheel controls for volume. I just use voice for about 75% of my functions though.

 

Why have you not received a new one yet?
