    Home setup.

I've been doing it for a while, but it does get a bit tedious sometimes. My router also has parental controls. My old E3000 used to let my throttle/quota connections.

Ish. Router lists devices, and if you ban'em, it's by mac.

With my current orbi and my last nighthawk at home, I didn't need to worry about MAC tables to implement the parental controls and/or turning off individual devices. With the Circle app added to the orbi, i can put all of my kid's devices into groups and turn them all off when needed. Still have the ability to permit/deny by individual devices when new w/o managing full MACs manually.

I don't need to use MAC filtering for parental controls. I use it as an extra layer of security, although i realize anyone skilled enough to crack the passphrase could probably just spoof a MAC address in the list. But it's another hurdle :notsure:

I am curious how my router might handle newer devices that use random MACs each time they connect. My router doesn't always get the hostname. I hope the same device won't show up as a bunch of random devices.

    Those bastards.

Our CSOC changed the name of their alert notification distro.

My rules (which file all of those alerts in the recycle bin) were rendered null and void.

I returned to work with 1157 unread emails from Friday.

    Oh, this will not do.

    Yeah.
I have tried to create rules to file ServiceNow emails, and for some reason the rules don't work. Probably a PICNIC error, but annoying.

It isn't just you. Thankfully our CSOC alerts come from a SharePoint RSS feed and not SNOW.

Otherwise I'd need a new computer...

Did shit hit the fan or is that a normal number of alerts? And if that's normal is anybody looking at them or does someone there just have a spam fetish?

Normal number for certain people. Most application managers set up rules to only keep those that have their particular application codes. Security folks get them all. However, I'm not a responder (moved into management) and somehow can't get myself removed from the distro list because it's "essential information."

    Shit.

If any of my key systems go down, I'll know long before one of these automated alerts reach me. The dude running around on fire will be the first visual indicator, and his morbid screams the audible one. Who needs alarms when you have dramatic crybaby sysads?

Well looks like a client got breached in the exchange debacle. We patched right after we found out but the logs indicate they were breach back in Feb. This is going to be "fun".

Is your O365 staying up? We've been having intermittent "unplanned outages" for about 2 weeks now.

Not at this client but others have had random issues with it recently. My outlook client has been on the fritz all weekend too.

So I've spent the day hunting down someway to connect a Jaz drive to get data off a disc they say they need.

I can let you borrow my K6-III+ build. AFAIK, the parallel port still works

Now that you mention it, I think I have that same board in operational condition in the garage. I actually dug through my old crap looking for a scsi card. I used to have one for a home scanner back in the 90s but it was probably the old monster 68 pin instead of the scsi 2 50 pin. And I'll bet it was IDE on top of it.

Parallel port or SCSI? If it's in an external enclosure and finding the right host interface is the problem, taking it apart and plugging it in internally might work. IIRC the parallel port versions were really SCSI or IDE inside. Not sure if I scrapped the couple of SCSI cards I had kicking around during the last purge of ancient computing gear. If you can't track one down, PM me and I can dig through the parts box.

Thank you sir, I appreciate the offer. It is SCSI-2 50-pin according to the specs I dug up. I may suggest he put a company-wide plea out there to see if anyone has an operational unit he could use. If it's terribly important he get his outdated info I may follow up with you

I have to chastise my entire team for saving "working copies" of the security artifacts they are working on to their desktops instead of the network shares that they are supposed to.

We just started the annual FISMA/FISCAM audit, and LO AND BEHOLD several artifact folders are missing from the network. And SharePoint.

Where are they? Billy Buttfuck's goddamn desktop. Which is NOT BACKED UP!!! :censored:

I swear to Christ I've taught them better than that. Any system that pops hot on a malware scan is reimaged, no backup. :annoyed:
