Can a bike fit under a softopper?

Why the concern with leaving it under a softopper overnight at a hotel?

It would be locked to the rocky mount on the bedrail and covered with the topper. Would have thought tbat would be ssufficient.

 

If ya got a locking tailgate, it makes it a hassle to get bike out

 

You would think that would be fine.
I was parked outside a Holiday inn in Eugene OR and my daughters bike was stolen. I was right by the front door, lots of lighting. My daughters downhill bike was locked in the truck bed under my Leer canopy that was also locked. I figured it was safe, wrong! They pried open the canopy, cut the lock, stole the bike.
A canopy doesn't stop a motivated thief. They weren't worried about being seen a whole lot.

 

No I mean the process for removing and putting that little bar on takes longer when its clipped in like that.

 

If the bike can be seen, it will eventually get stolen (hardtopper or softtopper). I store mine under a hard tonneau (wheels taken off) frequently and don't feel as worried as there is nothing that says "expensive bike" inside.

 

Not a soft top but I can jam 2 bikes under my shell. With a 5ft bed big bikes (Sentinel) have to be angled. They are locked to Rocky Mounts drive shaft fork mounts. I modified a OEM bed rail the bolted it into the truck using aluminum angle, some security headwear, and the OEM bed mounts. Access to the mounts and locks isn’t too bad via windoors. Relatively secure with the locking fork mounts, tailgate, and glass.

The opening may be bigger with a soft topper. Which would make loading and unloading easier.
