Yeah lol they were not fun. My main issue was not actually with them sealing around the CV, but when I drove them in, they kept tearing on the outside edge. Found out there was a crusty rusty ring of garbage that kept tearing them in that one area, so I spend 3-4 hours scaping it carefully with a pic. Can see where the rubber was getting scraped on the housing. If I regear in the future, I'm just gonna buy a whole new front diff lmao

On the bright side, this story ended up being the most fire interview response about overcoming failure, so the struggle paid for itself haha

thanks haha, idiot power helps me continue on. Front is a bit crusty, back half is pretty alright. Bought it when I was even more of a moron than I am now, but its not really that bad and frame is solid in all except 1 small part that I'll get to welding up sooner or later

Sorry everybody! Not to keep this going on a Taco forum.

MC has come a long way in the last several years with their stuff. You'll have to dm me some pix when you install it. I have a set of RK triple rates and prefer the linear myself. That said, Before progressive springs hit the market years ago, Land Rovers would run dislocation cones for the linear. this allowed the spring to unseat the spring bucket for max articulation. Then guide/reseat the spring back into normal position when compression came back in. The shock it's self would be the final limiting factor. Some ran the cones, and lot did not, because of the loud bang when the spring reset it's self.

Pic below is of one brand that had a hook built in to catch the spring when the arc (left to right) of the rear axle maxed out if the shock was built for more down travel than up travel. or just plain broke.

Edit: As for the fender measurement.. I never did trust it because everybody measured it differently in a different place.

Odd you should mention the Land Rovers. I just learned about them funky cone deals a few days ago.

Rite rite. I never messed with the cones myself. Wasn't going that crazy far in the build that I did.

Yeah truthfully I prefer linear as well and if I don't bite the the bullet and go with Rebel's front coilover bracket for the front, I'll more likely end up working with Accutune to get some linear springs and shorter shocks tuned to maximize 37s. Having 30" long shocks and over 12" of travel makes for some great range but I get no additional up-travel on this kit to get all that droop.

Fox has some 10.5" travel shocks that would gain me an inch up at the cost of three down but given it's a truck in the desert, I think that's a solid trade-off. Pair that up with some air bumps that just slide into the factory bumpstop tubes inside the springs and I think I'd be in good shape.

    but yeah, </jeep> haha

Good god, man. That's freakin' tragic as hell....but also completely avoidable, you're right.
