Alright so here is the deal. I have a stock 2010 4x4 with LSD. I want to lift it but my knowledge attained from this site is curving my decision. The truck stock is very capable, even with dunlops ( Wet Alabama clay was no match). Of course I like the look of the taller truck, but it seems lifting it decreases downtravel which is what helps you keep going when your truck leaves the ground or bottoms out. No we dont have much sand or hills just mud and more thick mud. And no I am not talking about body lifts or spacers. I want to debate is stock setup as capable as say OME or toytec ULK, maybe some even higher setups like icon.

I am at the same fork in the road I really want to lift it but at the same time I dont.

I was told we can rock 265/75/16's at stock, I think Im going to throw some on and see what if looks like then, I just want it a tad bit higher.

If I still dont like it i'll end up lifting it.

Better tires, specifically tires made for better off road performance, are going to provide your truck more off road capability (when compared to a truck with stock tires and lift.) Tires will be your best investment at this point because they will provide additional clearance (sometimes as much or more than the inexpensive lifts) and better traction.

Just so I know, with 265/75/16's wont rub correct?

I know that will give me a little lift. Compared to stockers!

    Going with BFG A/T's

If you lift it right, it'll preserve your downtravel and add suspension travel overall, but it's going to be expensive.

You'll need extended travel coilovers from a top-tier manufacturer like Icon, King, or Fox. You will also need uniball UCAs with misalignment spacers (Total Chaos, Camburg, DSM, etc).

To keep all of this from having the retarded baja ass sag, you'll want to bump the rear up as well, meaning you'll need at least some Bilstein 5100 shocks and an AAL.

All of this is going to weigh in around $2000 to $2500 for parts. The install will be more if you don't do it yourself, but you really should do it yourself. It's really less of a lift and more replacing the entire suspension with a performance suspension.

You won't be able to pull this off with an OME or Toytec kit.

Correct. If you really want solid offroad traction, you should consider an MT. But be prepared to sacrifice mileage and have some road noise.

BFG A/Ts should be no problem. MTs with large side lugs may touch at full lock, my Toyos very rarely rub.

I feel the same way. HMMMMMM????? I love my Sport Editions 4x4 abilities on road as well as off. I lucked out with a great freaking tire. Bridgestone Dueler Revo-265/70/17. On the road this really is an awesome truck! Handling is fantastic for a truck. Then I think about a slight lift and the looks as well as function for off-road. Then look at cost plus fuel mileage change. HMMMM?????? What do I do?

Stock is only better for resale. And that's because you won's get back all the $$ you spent on mods. :D

    Lift: front - 5100s set a .85 , rear - spring TSB

Tires: 265/75R16 Duratracs on stock ( painted ) steel rims

I have found this to be a perfect set up.

I have may-be 1 inch of total lift, no rubbing or vibration issues

but have had no problems getting around, and looking good!

Haven't go stuck yet, love the Duratracs !!!!

In case there is any question. i want to know do you think a stock setup with mud tires could keep up with a similar set of tires and an averaged priced 3" lift?

Have always believed these trucks are so good except for the stock tires.

the change is like night and day once they are replaced,

and i dont need a big lift to get where im going.

hell if it wasnt for the TSB , i probabaly wouldnt of got the 5100s

But i have been so happy with this set up.

I'm probably stating the obvious but here it goes. In general your truck will perform very similar to a truck with a 3" lift. In some cases you will perform better (where wheel down travel is needed for traction on berms and rocks). Where you will have trouble is when you need extra center ground clearance and higher approach and departure angles. Having skidplates will protect your truck in those instances. Just bring a good recovery trap and a friend with a truck.

No, due to clearances and the fact you have to run slightly smaller tires. Downtravel is over rated unless you remove your sway bar. Put in a 2.5" lift with 1" more travel. You lose 1.5" down travel and gain 2.5" up travel... it will be better overall and you can run a larger tire.
