nothing beats the smoothness of an I6. i would definitely prefer that over a v8.

I had a few Jeep Cherokees and a Jaguar XJ6, all with 4.0 liter I6 engines. All of them incredibly smooth!

We're more likely to see a 4 cylinder being the only option than a V8 option being added. If it makes as much power as the 2.3 in the Ranger, I'd welcome it. Of course, not if it's unreliable.

Jeep 4.0 is a nice engine. I agree a Toyota straight six would be nice. What happened to the old
Supra engines? Maybe that could be tuned for toque (without the turbo)

That would be great, but probably wouldn't fit under the hood.

Turbo motors can make excellent torque. The later VVT-I version of the 1JZ made peak torque at around 2400 RPM's if I recall correctly. It would probably be much better for towing than the current option.

They couldn't keep up with emissions regulations, unfortunately.

I would bet that's a big part of the reason we don't see many of them any more. A V6 is so much more compact. It's all about legroom! :)

I would rather see the 6cyl with the option for a supercharger with the Pro model only perhaps.

Lol. Seriously though. I mean you sell me the exact same truck as a pro model with a few options I could probably get better quality aftermarket anyway but you don’t add much else? Why not make the Pro with a supercharger to set it even more apart from all the other mid-size trucks out there. Sexier, faster, and more capable in just about everything. Do that, and I am a sucker, take my money, I don’t care how much you want

Ya they are putting in a V6 in the next Tundra and a V8 in the Tacoma.

why would you put a turbo V6 in a Tundra and not stick it in the Taco. I heard the twin trbo job is on the 3.5L taco engine to match the F150 eco boost 3.5TT V6. Not sure how true it is. If so, I can see that engine being put in a ton of Toyotas including Tacos as it would be a direct fit.

I'd anticipate a turbo 4 in the Taco or naturally aspirated to remain. Ford won't even put an EcoBoost 6 cylinder in the Ranger.

Toyota clearly knows Ford is onto something or they wouldn't be following the same path. But, if it is truly the same engine with some turbos, they will need to figure some other things out since this 3.5L was not designed around the turbos like the EcoBoosts have been evolved to. The 2.7L was designed from the ground up with the turbo in mind.

Possibly, but maybe they built the bottom end to take stresses and a new head for the turbo setup. Whatever the case, I doubt the Taco would ever get a V8. A Turbo 4 would make sense as jeep has gone that way as well.

Just Bring the Turbo diesel engine to the Taco and we are good.

Throw the 5.7L into the Tacoma! Should be good for 15mpg hwy.

Who knows. But I have faith that the Tundra being delayed can mean nothing but good things.

I'd also gladly take a turbo diesel.

The 2UR 5.0L V8 has been used since 2007 in the LS 600h, IS F, GS F, RC F, LC 500, Century, and is coming to the IS 500 later this year. That said, the 1UR (4.6L), and 3UR (5.7L) have been used in numerous vehicles as well.

I talked to an engineer from Boeing couple of days ago, Toyota and Boeing are discussing fitting faulty Pratt & Whitney engines from 777s to Tacoma’s. I think OPs salesman heard this but misinterpreted it as a V8.
