Adding some light picture upgrades. Removed Halogen bulbs from fog lamps and High beam. Kept all at same color point 6000k

Awesome work! Like others, I had a hilux turbo diesel 5speed when I was in the philippines and loved it. Also had an armored one there as well. How long do you get to stay in Thailand for? My dream would be able to move there with my family for a couple of years for my kids to experience living abroad when they're older.

Thanks. I really like the Hilux platform and power train configuration. Runs really well. Loads of TQ due to the diesel. I enjoyed my Taco's in the states but prefer the Hilux between the two.

As for Thailand, I work and live here now. I only visit the US from time to time to see family and friends. Doubt I will ever return to live in US. I am established here now and enjoy living abroad. I think its a great idea to expose your children to living in different countries. The world is a big place.

Thanks. I really like the Hilux. I just wish they offered a long bed crew cab option. I like that platform on my 2015 Tacoma I had and sold before moving to Thailand.

They are built like tin cans here, aka why they weigh less. When you see an accident look how much more damage the cars and trucks have.

Don't disagree to a point. All the new trucks all have the airbags and side air safety systems. One thing in comparing the Hilux to the Tacoma is the Tacoma is loaded with a lot of heavy road noise deadening material, bigger and heavier seats and they also have huge heater. Trucks and cars do not have heaters here as you know. The electronics and hardware are far more complex on the Tacoma with all the driver sensors stuff to help you drive plus smog control. It all adds up.

I have the tundra brake upgrade kit for the tacoma.
It won't fit on my truck.

It's the best kit they make. Big calipers and the drilled and slotted rotors with the sink coating and carbon pads. The tigerr is a cross between the hilix and the sr5. my rotors bolt to the hub where the us tacoma it slides over20210306_111109.jpg

No heater on my 2016 Hilux. It does have a defroster for whatever reason. Never had a window fog up in all my time here.

Yeah the Tacoma uses "Hats" for rotors. My 2016 Hilux is the same platform as the 2016 Tacoma. Everything I took off my Tacoma bolted right onto my Hilux here. My Rear disc brake set up is off the Fortuner which is likely the same as the 4runner.

Your Tiger is probably just like the Sr5. The new Tundra stuff will not likely fit with out mods would be my guess due to the platform changes. As they say in modifying vehicles..."Its always something"

One thing about the Hilux (and probably the Tacoma) is when you open the tail gate it slams open if you do not hold it until all the way down. The tailgate is reasonably heavy. The other day I came across this cheap tail gate mod. A whopping $10. I sort of laughed but figured for $10 bucks why not.

Here is what you get in the kit with no instructions btw. But hey us guys who mod stuff can figure it out.

Now before you even get started, I highly recommend you grind down the threaded stud on each bracket as far as you can where you still have enough thread to tighten it up with the strut eye in place. When I first put the set on, the tailgate hit both studs as I tried a dry run closing the gate as they are simply way to long.

After removing the tail lamp, you bolt the bracket on using the 1 bolt and nut supplied. The tail lamp bolt is the other bolt to hold it. At this time remove the little black plastic guide near the bracket as it is not needed and will now interfere with the tailgate lever and the strut.

With Torx head remove the bolts and install the other bracket

Fully extend the strut then slide the eye ends on the studs and use the 2 nuts supplied

All bolted in and done. If the threaded studs were the right length this would have taken about 30 minutes tops.

Question is, does it work? For $10 I was skeptical but amazingly it works really well. You unlatch the gate open and about 1/3 of the way into opening the gas strut takes over and brings the tailgate to an easy soft opening. No more "Bang". How long will the strut last. I guess it depends on how often you open and close your tailgate.

Good find! My 20 has factory "soft open" system so this is now stock on the newer Tacoma. For $10 this is a great option for older trucks.
