What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Installed my new tail lights from Tacoma Beast (Alpharexusa) and loving them!

 

So I was rear ended about a month ago and the cover on my trailer plug broke. I was wondering if anyone knew of a cheaper replacement because the guys insurance is only giving me $230 which doesnt really cover the cost of an OEM replacement. I also have a bankrupt armor (pelfreybilt) rear high clearance so Im hoping to find one where the bolt holes line up.

When mine broke I just got a generic one from walmart for like $10 and spliced it into the factory wiring.

 

Spent the afternoon working on the truck. Oil change, air filter, tire rotation...

Plus since my last wheeling trip showed that my 295s on 3.5”BS wheels rubbed the firewall and inner fender...

So I brought out the BFH, bashed the firewall more, and the inner fender, then reapplied some rubberized undercoating on the firewall and primer/paint on the inner fender.

Plus pulled my sagging shitty Allpro expo leaf springs and put on my new Deaver u402 stage III’s.

 

Nope, always had the stock lcas. Por15 is in my future tho

Finally used the front locker and really tried out the 4.56 gears.

The first stage of the bumper build. I’ll be driving around like this till I get my cardboard prototype made (yes I am removing the stock aluminum bumper and then reinforcing the frame ends) and then it’s off to the computer. What do you all think about keeping aluminum in the front and steel in the rear? I can weld either.

 

230 total??....for a rear ender? F that....I think my neck would start hurting. See how fast they reconsider.

 

They said they found a shop to do the work at $24/hour which I have never heard of

Im going to take it to Toyota and another shop for the damages and see what they quote without labor and go back to them with those receipts and keep going higher and higher till they pay up. Maybe I should let slip Im going to speak to a lawyer

If you tell the insurance company you are speaking to a lawyer just be prepared to hire one. A lot of insurance companies will immediately stop negotiating with you as soon as you mention the word lawyer...or attorney.

 

It's true what Hiyudurin said, but if they really found a shop to work for $24/hour I can guarantee you won't be happy with the work they do. Usually (might vary, state by state) you don't have to accept the lowest price...you can get it done where YOU want to. Especially if I was dealing with a not-at-fault accident, I'd definitely be an asshole. I have nothing to lose...MY rates wont go up.

Also if all else fails, go tell your insurance company the other is playing hardball. Decent chance that they will pay for YOUR body shop then go after the other insurance company for the money...let them hire the lawyer.

 

Subrogation sucks. All insurance companies love doing it, all of them hate when it's done to them, but that's why it exists. "I paid for my dude to get his shit fixed, now you pay me for doing your work for you, otherwise we'll sue you."

 

Just be sure to put a weak point in it somewhere between the impact surface and the frame. Don't want the frame of your truck to be the weakest link in the chain.

 

It is your truck. An insurance company can't legally tell you where to get it fixed. They might act as though they can... but check with legal counsel and learn from this. I have always taken a cash settlement and done the work myself.
