    About and 8.4% difference.

    You will feel that.

Assume you have an AT. Go direct to 5.29.

MT 5.29 is mighty low. But some few people need that. I have 4.88 in MT and it's perfect.

    Oh man…
Dude that sucks, sorry to hear about the shitty customer service! No way should it be a “common problem” either. If a problem is common with one of your parts, that SHOULD mean you fix the issue, not just keep pumping out the same faulty product. This is good info for many though, I was set on Nitro and close to an order. After seeing this I guess I need to rethink my manufacture choice. Hope it all works out for you man.

Holy crap that sucks! I ordered and some rings and pinions from them and just installed them myself this weekend. Hopefully it doesn't do the same months down the road. But yea that sucks with the customer service. So they just blew at cruising speed? Must have been a bad batch?

Are Nitro Gears what everyone here is putting in? I saw them for 1269.00 ebay. Is that a safe kit to buy? And what do you think I'll pay in labor having it done? I'm not that adventurous when it comes to internal mechanical, especially on my daily driver. My motives for this are to help in pulling a tear drop toy hauler off road trailer. Good plan or nuh?

Can anyone recommend a shop in SoCal.
I have a 2017 OR AT w/rear locker. After reading this thread I’m leaning toward the Yukon 5.29’s. Also I’d like to know the ballpark pricing for the area. Thank in advance!

Nitro is still a quality product. Another beside them and Yukon is Revolution.

Apologies if this was already asked, I am still reading through this thread. What kind of weight/load out does your truck have? Lots of armor? Topper on the back? Etc. Thanks in advance.

The truck has evolved over the years. When I first regeared to 5.29, I still had stock tires but had sliders, skids and a lowpro winch bumper with winch.

Since then I have added the GFC camper to the back, upgraded to 35s with beadlocks and also upgraded to a full front bumper and added a HC rear bumper with dual swing out.

So overall I went from stock tires with 300 lbs of armor and add ons to 35s with about 700 lbs armor and add ons.

Finally got my 5.29 installed by nitro (just differentials) this past week! So far so good and couldn’t be happier with the performance. Highway cruising is great.

Got to go spend some time cruising forest service roads to break in the front gears.

5.29 in a 2016 M/T TRD sport on 285/70/17's with front and rear bumper, winch, armor (engine, trans and front diff), sliders, and camper shell with decked system? Thoughts? Or 4.88? I have a rear ARB air locker I want to throw in too so I figure I should only have 'em open it once.

Oh yeah.. OVTuned, Catted dump tubes as well

Automatic 6 speeds can benefit from 5.29 with their double overdrive transmission. I have a dead stock 2021 AT Off-Road and 6th is worthless on rolling hills with a stock truck. 6' bed and a bad knee, so I'm happy with the AT but wtf was Toyota thinking with these gear ratios? My 2019 Highlander (8 speed AT) was smooth and great gearing, it was like "let's make this truck has decent MPG numbers" but doesn't work in the real world. Hint it's a truck!

MT has much better stock gearing, but unless you plan on much larger tires I'd stick to 4.88.

Oh, I did a test drive a new Ford Ranger (2.3 EcoBoost with 10 speed). That combination was sweet. I like long-term Toyota Reliability, so went with the Tacoma but knew what I get getting into (A truck with six automatic speeds, keep in S4 for driveability on rolling hills or headwind). Larger tires, than stock, mean gearing time. Just wish Toyota offered an OEM option.

I have a similar setup. Sliders, skids, winch, batteries, bed and roof rack, tent, bumpers...

I'm in a 2016 ovtuned manual. The truck falls on it's face going uphill. I'm going 5.29!

Edit: i also have 33's and weigh in at over 6400lbs loaded down
