    Howdy,
Bad news. My taco broke down a few weeks ago during the visit of Elsa from Frozen to Texas.
The Texas Snow Adventures, the Oklahoman Ice Chronicles, the age of the truck, and the idiocy of its operator (me,) ensure that I had a broken down truck by the end of my 1st year of owning this beauty.
I wont get into much detail but I'll give a short explanation of what happened.
Was driving back home from drill in Oklahoma (because I am a weekend warrior) and the roads were icy and slippery. I thought it was a great idea to set the truck in 4H for extra traction. Anyway, I kept it on almost all the way home about 3h drive and I kind of forgot about it as I was minding my own business I reached speeds of about 60 mph.
The truck decided it wasn't going to have it, I started smelling something but I figured it would be the fumes from the natural gas semi truck I was driving behind or anything OTHER than my truck. Next thing I know, I feel a really hard clunk on the bottom of my seat and the truck quickly sputters to a halt.
I pull over and exit the truck to find a pool of oil, broken driveshaft, and more stuff as you will see in pictures below...
I want to try and fix it myself with the help of a local mechanic, he hasn't been able to come out and see it but I want to know where to start and get yall's opinions on how bad and expensive the damage is...
    Doesn't look great to me.

Looks like the input shaft to the front diff had a bad day. I'd find one with the same gear ratio and add or locking hubs setup in a junkyard and install it.

Looks like it took out the slave cylinder too?

Yessir it is a manual. It took out a bunch of stuff, I am new to mechanics but yes no more clutch for poor ole Becky.
I'm surprised to see the damage to the metal on tranny. I felt every one of those hits under my seat.

That hole looks like where your clutch fork is, probably broke the stud it pivots on inside. You'll definitely need a new transmission. Looks like you'll need a new steering rack and a new definitely new front diff plus driveline.

Only time I've seen damage like was a buddies Subaru when he had 2 slightly different sized tires on his rig.. are all your tires the same size? And if they are the SAME dimensions on the side of the tire, are they the same brand? Cause different manufacturers can sell the same "size" but can be just slightly different enough that running it in 4WD for extended time period at high speed will blow up a diff

have you drained the front diff yet? I'm guessing it was low or empty on fluid, overheated, and locked up

I changed fluids in both diffs and tranny about 2 months ago. I put Redline MT-90 in tranny and Valvoline SynPower GL5 in both diffs

Did you feel any vibrations going down the highway in 4wd? Seems like an out of balance shaft could do this given enough time.

No vibrations really. Only issue I was having at the time was that the ball joints needed to be replaced and possibly work on the Rack & pinion. Which I was going to get looked that next week...

holly crap man, never seen something like that before. At least on a Toyota, lol...

You have 4 tires... Were *all 4* tires the same?

You can drive around in 4hi all day long at any speed. Even on dry pavement, doing 75 on the highway in 4hi wouldn't do this. The only thing I'd do is slow way down to engage or disengage 4wd.

I think you had other issues. Kind of irrelevant at this point what those issues were, since you'll pretty much be replacing everything that could have contributed.

What in the actual fu*k.. Looks like the pinion sheared off..?

Do the front wheels still spin? Cant imagine that would have been a fun ride if not..

They spun alright when being pulled onto flatbed for towing. Haven't really messed with it since. I work Monday to Monday and don't have much mechanical experience.
And no sir, it was not a fun ride. Stopped rather abruptly.

@rackomint after you serviced your diff did you have any little dribbles of oil where you parked?

Have you driven in 4wd for extended periods of time before this?
