Right... have you checked to see if there is any left? are you sure it was properly filled?

Thanks for thinking of me when you see catastrophic failures. lol

OP, you don't mess around when it comes to breakage. I can relate.

As far as what happened goes. It's pretty obvious the trans output shaft failed and the driveshaft let loose. Those things flying around at 3000 RPM's can really fuck shit up. The why is where it's gonna get interesting.

My best guess is the trans locked up and not the diff. That causes shock loading of the whole drive line and the weak point up stream was the output shaft. Then that shears and the driveshaft goes around and around taking out the PS lines. It could have also taken out the shift fork or that could have gone when the trans went. I'm basing this on the fact that the OP describes the truck "sputtering to a halt".

With the front drive line now disconnected something else was causing the sputtering. If there was enough force to shear the output shaft like that everything else in the front diff would be destroyed to the point of spinning freely again.

@rackomint Where all tires spinning freely when you flat bedded it?

But you always have such good input when it comes to catastrophic failure!:D

No sir. I check for leaks periodically because I had a leak in the T-Case from the shifter when I bought it but it was fixed a few months back. No signs of a leak before and it was parked on its same spot as always.
I have engaged 4WD in both Hi and Lo since the service to test proper function but I cannot say I have had it for extended periods of time. Only occasionally.

Yes, just put my finger in there and she's still wet and slimy, even after sitting for a few weeks. And yes it was properly filled, I did a good job at filling and draining everything.

    Yessir they seemed to be.
And thank you for empathy but I sincerely hope that you have better luck and more money than I do!

At this point I am not sure what to do because I think a shop is going to want to do me sideways.

What would cause a 5spd trans to lock up? I think OP said he had just put MT90 in it too

A shift fork failing. Anyone know what gear the main shaft is on in the 5-speed.

I'd be more suspicious of the transfer case, but I don't think we've ruled out the slightly different size tire scenario either, especially if it still rolls.

Could be but all tires are still rolling. Unless the failure happened only on the 4 side which is possible.

I have never seen a transfer case lockup without cracking the case but I'd love to be proven wrong :D :worthless:

I can post pictures of each of the 4 tires. Got 2 new ones in the front and the 2 old ones I've had in the rear.

Carnage wise I think the only thing on here I've seen that compares, is when that one guy in Jamaica with the turbo 1st gen had his flywheel explode under WOT. Those were fun pics

Regretfully yes, paying a shop to do the work is going to add up FAST with the labor hours, only way around it is to do the work yourself which is a challenge in it's own right if you don't have a good tool set. There's enough info on these forums to replace all the major components but just the cost in parts is going to about 2500 with my guess. Less if you can find deals.

You just put your finger in which hole? Giggity

The front diff hole or also the transmission hole? And you filled till it weeped out of the top plug correct? I'm not doubting your procedure I'm just running through the checklist since I'm not there to inspect it myself

Hmm. If the chain snaps, what happens? Just loose 4wd or does it clog up the works?

Well that's not reassuring, I've heard the shift forks on these are prone to breaking over time

Think I'll be extra gentle on my truck until I forget about this thread *unsubs*

Best way to put that theory to bed would be to wrap a measuring tape around each one and get the circumference.

Also, I appreciate everyone here that has been helping. Had nowhere else to turn :bananadead:
I can post pics of T-case haven't seen cracks on it but I can look closely.

I appreciate it. And yessir I did.

I also just put 4 fingers in the tranny hole and moved them all around to try and feel around.... Dry as cotton!!

Here is a video if inside the hole https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBLlnqm2kaU&feature=youtu.be

When you check your Tcase have a catch pan, the inner seal between it and the trans can fail and dump the fluid from the trans into the t case

Phew. That's the inside of the bell housing. It's supposed to be dry.

Further back on the driver's side of the tranny is a big hex head bolt. If it's dry inside that one...that's a problem.
