A hybrid will most likely out accelerate, out tow, and deliver more low end torque. All with better fuel mileage.

A hybrid Tacoma will likely make more power, be faster and have vastly better MPG.

Bingo. The amount of people on this forum that live in the automotive stone-age is staggering

You can look at hybrid versions of vehicles that already exist now. You don't have to wait.

Well hybrid tech is well proven. So it's nothing unbelievable.

On paper, I was COMPLETELY against my wife getting the 2020 Highlander Hybrid purely because of the horsepower numbers. After test driving it, you simply don't feel it because off the line, the hookup for those electric motors is amazing.

Toyota hasn't had a straight six compliant with US emissions in the last 16 years. If a Toyota chief engineer wants a straight six bad enough, he has to look outside the company (a la BMW A90 Supra).

Toyota did it a decade ago. Unfortunately, producing a one-off concept/test mule takes about 1% of the budget of implementing an engine in production.

So... who said the Tundra is keeping its V8 for 2022?

I thought the fake Atkinson motor covered those bases already.

    Agreed!

Yeah, there are guys on the 4runner forum still wishing they would bring back the V8 as well. Obviously not gonna happen.

Some have even said they would prefer a 5.0 in the new Bronco instead of the 2.7 EB. I just don't get it.

I mean, I get them wanting it. A v8 Taco would be a hell of a truck, but folks have to understand that it's 2021 and it isn't going to happen. And they also need to understand that an electric Taco would likely destroy the V8 in every way. V8's were great, but there is better tech now.

    Ding ding.

The Tundra and Sequoia will have a strengthened version of the 3.5 TT from the Lexus LS. The 4.6 and 5.7 V8s are dead.

There will not be a V8 Tacoma

The V8 will never disappear , look at the current hp war going on with Ford and Chrysler

    Ford has a 650hp GT500 Mustang

Chrysler has the Hellcat at 707 hp and also has Hellephant crate engines rated 1k plus hp

Well, that 2.7 is known as the Ecobomb by every Ford mechanic I know, while the 5.0L is known for being a fairly stout motor so I cannot say that I blame them.

That being said I would love to have a 2.7L 4 cylinder truck with a hybrid drive that makes it as powerful as my current 4L and got 10L/100km instead of 15L/100km on a good day. Also manual, but that's a pipe dream that will never happen.

All joking aside....the upcoming Tundra will have an optional hybrid booster to take torque north of 600 ft lbs
