Well, we're talking about Toyota's V8 in future production vehicles specifically.

Another car nobody buys. Why are you equating power numbers to sales and where the industry is heading?

They're done after this model year
I don't think they will. Cost would be prohibitive.

That said....I had the opportunity to drive an LS AWD a couple of years ago. That thing pulls like a mother f**ker. In the Lexus it lays down 442 lbs ft of torque at only 1600 rpm.

The Tundra's version should top that....and with the hybrid booster it should have stupid low end grunt

Ok, nobody is debating what posters like. To suggest that V8's aren't going to die because they make high power or there is some kind of non existent "war" is complete nonsense.

V8's are already on life-support, if not already dead.

Toyota's 70 Series tester in Australia. Speculation is they are using Solid State batteries. Sub 30 min. full recharge time

I am gonna blow up my engine and ask for a replacement twin turbo:D

440 ft lbs is a crap load. I would even buy a GX if it came with that motor.

With the hybrid booster the number I'm hearing is 600+ lbs at under 2000 rpm.

Guessing that would twist our little frames in half and leave a 1/4 mile trail of transmission parts on the road

The next GX is still being debated. I hear they might kill it here in the States. Of course, it will continue as the Land Cruiser Prado in the rest of the world. But no V8

They need to do it because the standard F150 eco boost 3.5 is 500 ftlbs of torque and has been for some time.

An Atkinson cycle motor uses a shorter stroke on intake and compression. I'm not exactly sure how they accomplished that, but you can google it.

Toyota simulates this with ultra retarded cam timing allowing air to escape back into the intake manifold on the compression stroke.

If it does stay....the 4.6 V8 is dead. The 4.6 and 5.7 are modular engines. The stroke is the biggest difference. Kill one and the other follows.

Also...the 1GR in the current 4Runner is going the way to the Dodo bird too.

So if anyone is a fan of that or either V8....ya better make a decision in the next year or so

It stands to make sense that anything offered in the future Tundra on the F1 platform would be optioned for the Tacoma since they will both be on the same frame. Tow ratings should be pretty close considering. Depending on if they also share the same axles.
V8 though? Doubtful. Rumormill is the Hybrid TTV6 (ecoboost competitor?) in the 2022 Tundra (sauce https://www.autoevolution.com/news/...n-investment-in-san-antonio-plant-137568.html).

The model year 2023 Tacoma will be the first one on the new F1 platform.
I'm curious to see what Toyota does offer since it should all in theory be plug-n-play, and whether it will get a face lift or not.

    Probably.

Oddly enough though....Toyota is giving the 8 one last send off. They are going to offer that LC 5.0 engine in the IS for at least one model year soon.

And as long as we're on the subject of disappearing models......if you're a fan of the current Land Cruiser you better try and find one now, because it's done in The States. Of course that also means it's tuxedo clad cousin the Lexus LX570 is done as well
