So just as a follow up; I do have a friend at a Toyota dealership that can get me the OEM LED headlights for his employee price, so that brings it to a more palatable $1300. But, based on some more research (from ”the thread”)and some feedback from @tclavell i ordered up a set of Hikari Eyes of Megatron H11 LED bulbs to try out first. My ultimate goal is a better experience for me, matching with my LED fogs, and I just want them to be safe for me and those around me.

I just installed them and am impressed with the quality construction, they look good lit up right now but the real test will be tonight when I can go for a drive in the dark.

Here is a picture of the driver side swapped out to LED compared to the passenger side stock halogen. Striking difference in color temp for sure.

I am not ruling out the OEM LED headlights, but let’s see how good these do while I recover from the exhaust / CAI upgrade purchase.

For that kind of money, You would be better off buying a set of Alpha Rex lights. I did them on mine and am very pleased with them.

Why such terrible advice if he is willing to spend $1300 for headlights?

No offense, but if I’m going over $1k for headlights they are going to be OEM.

I’m glad you like yours! It’s good to have options.

All good. I'm not offended, just giving my opinion based on my experience so far. Apparently I said something terrible though but no one will say what i'm missing. Awesome intro to a new forum. Oh well.

No worries man. As long as they are working for you and you’re happy, and they aren’t unsafe for you or others, enjoy them.

I’ve only been a forum member / Taco owner for a couple months, and like all other corners of the internet there are a lot of people with a lot of strong opinions here. I’m used to it based on my 20+ years of mountain bike forums, those folks are crazy too.

There is a resident self-proclaimed lighting expert in these parts, and he thrashed those headlights pretty hard in one of his “unbiased reviews” and I think it has kind of spread like wildfire.

But hey, welcome to TW and hope to keep seeing you around.

AlphaRex also sells a wiring harness that allows people to convert to their full LEDs. I wonder if their harness is the same as the harness being sold by that TW member (forgot his name) so if we buy it we can use to for OEM LEDs as well?

Also contemplating OEM LED units but have decided to spend the money elsewhere.

Personally, matching colors on lows and fogs does not matter. Being able to see well at night without blinding others is all I care about. For me, headlights and fogs are safety equipment.

Low Beams - recommend trying the H9 swap for <$20. Same bulb as your OEM highs and perform extremely well in halogen projectors.

Fogs - Diode Dynamics SS3 kit in selective yellow. Went with Max version and they are absolutely incredible. Do not run these until encountering fog and/or foul weather.

Spent $20 on low beams, then $400+ on fogs! Love the setup.
