Love my 1/2" impact. It was a total impulse buy but I use the crap out of it so no RAGRETS.

Thanks. The one in stock at my local HD is the friction ring. I think for my occasional use, either would be fine.

I had a buddy lose the ring off his somehow. Just something to keep an eye on when you pull a socket off. I've never had an issue with mine.

Hours of practice, super glue, and oh by the way, most never got all 5 on fully. Lotta cars pre-2016 were missing lug nuts after the finish line. They actually had to make a rule to say that all lug nuts had to be secure before the car could move.

They're going to centerlock for the 2021 series so I've heard.

I just used my M12 stubby 3/8" impact today to take all of the lugs off of my wife's SUV. No sweat with the 6.0 battery. I got the 3/8" over the 1/2" because I have a wider range of impact sockets in 3/8" and the specs are identical. I recommend the friction ring over the ball detent because the ball holds too well and it's too hard to remove sockets (I tried both). Soo much nicer than dragging an air hose around.

The auto shut off mode is great for putting lugs back on without over tightening. I do the final tightening with a torque wrench.
You can actually leave it in that mode since it runs full power in reverse.

Milwaukee uses pin detents, not ball detents. Pin detents are usually for working at heights where losing a socket may pose a danger to hitting someone or something below. It requires you to push the pin with a nail, punch etc. thru the hole in the socket to release.

I used my M12 Stubby 3/8 to install my lift kit and leaf springs this weekend. 4ah battery and still have half left. No sweat.

Do you need special sockets for the impact wrench? Or can you use one from a standard socket set?

if you're just using the impact to tighten the bolt into place, like with the Drive Control feature, and then torquing it down, a regular socket will probably be fine (though still not recommended for insurance/legal reasons). but if you're breaking a nut or actually using the impact part of the gun, stick to the impact sockets. A regular socket could shatter under the impacts.

I think that 10mm - 24 mm is a good size range for 3/8" drive impact sockets.
