Missing features on the TRD Pro Manual

    Or alternatively you could get rid of the CSC feature on manuals with push button start. The you just use the same wires from the auto neural switch to sense the clutch position.

    If you want to keep CSC feature, it seems pretty trivial to add an extra line of code to check for the signal from the CSC switch. At that point you could have it try to start for 10s or until the start button is pressed a second time. I think the technical issues are minor. The hardware probably doesn’t even need to change. Like you said, I’m sure they ditched it because it wasn’t a feature they thought would be important to people that bought manuals.

    I love the truck, just wanted to provide info that some may not know. Even with a few things lacking compared to the AT, the 4.30 Axle Ratio and lower 1st gear make it worth it IMO. I thought about going the Off Road route instead of the Pro and upgrading but for me. It was easier to run it like this with everything under warranty and not worrying about them pointing fingers at aftermarket parts if theres a problem. Once the warranty is up I will do some upgrades if I need to.. I will say the new TRD lift package may answer that question for people with the Off road... Per my dealer its a $2,300 upgrade

    You cannot push start it??? (has anyone tried?) - It is a useful thing in a pinch, you know...

    I assumed you could... (Now I need to look for a new vehicle! :rofl:)

    Not a big deal of course - until it becomes a junker, that is!

    Yeah that's what I was saying previously. Doing manual with smart key is something Toyota does all the time, and it would have been easy to implement on the Tacoma, just not while keeping the CSC switch.

    It feels like it would be easier than it actually is, but how hard it actually is, isn't very hard, haha.

    That is to say, the start switch is not connected to the ECU, it is connected to the certification ECU. The start is not connected to the certification ECU, it's connected to the engine ECU. The engine ECU likely has no idea how long you've pushed the switch for. So it's a few lines of code in the certification ECU (along with another input signal), loading that up onto the communication bus, then some lines of code in the engine ECU to change the starter control behaviour.

    You'd also probably want to keep the redundancy of the clutch start switch actually having the starter signal run through it/be disconnected to avoid potential safety concerns.

    You now need to run a risk analysis and code review on these potential safety issues, rework the wiring, develop a different clutch start cancel switch. It's quite a few hours to put into a model that really won't move that many units.

    I would expect the Tacoma with a manual can readily be push started.

    Heck, even my Lexus IS (with smart key and push button start) can be push started. I just need have just enough power to get the car into "ON."

    I've stalled the engine before, while moving around in a parking lot. Was able to clutch in & pop it right back out, for the restart. But now I'm gonna have to try it, to confirm.

    Yeah. Bump starting works as you would expect. Our 2001 Volvo V70 MT did not like bump starting. It would take a good run and still no go at times.

    I fear that they won't, just like the end of the SR MT in 2017. It'll be sad, but the current Taco MTs will live on for decades.

    Not that I am saying this is a good or bad, just providing info. The MT is missing Service Connect and Remote Connect. The lack of remote start makes sense but some features like vehicle location, more status info and driver notifications could be nice

    Some folks might agree with that, but I do not. A car does not need a hardwired cellular connection. The equipment is so far out of date by the time the car rolls off the line. Vehicle development cycles are just too long and Connected Service are typically too restricted to be any great use.

    That just my opinion. But then, I do have a pre-TSS-P, non-Prem, non-Tech Taco. :D
