You could always make your hood skewp functional by attaching an oil catch can.

Don't quote me on this because I think I read it when I first joined the forum. Iirc some old thread from like 2016 (lol) included a drawing of the 3rd gen sport hood in a wind tunnel and according to the drawing the scoop would not receive any airflow. Again though who knows what real world results would show.

If I remember correctly, a backwards facing skewp would be significantly more effective. I can't remember if that was because hot air would be drawn out, or if the windshield would funnel fresh air in.

Getting a hood scoop is no different than getting a custom paint job, or wheel/tire combo...sound system. We all have our style. Most of us drive these things every day... if you like looking at it...like driving it... it just makes the day better.. These days we can use all the little things we can get. There's not many outlets to express your style.....let people enjoy their style, whatever it is... collectively it's good for everyone.. just sayin'...

My wife's 4runner has the scoop and with the different angles of it there's often glare from the sun. Glad I don't have it.

My wife has a Subaru Crosstrek. Sometimes the sun glares on the hood. I don't have a Crosstrek.

Not necessarily. The hood scoops were an option then as is now. My brother and I just pulled our dads 70 442 out of the shed and took to a shop to get it running again. It doesn't have the W25 optional hood scoops, and honestly I think the smooth hood looks a lot better.

You don't want that hood anyway. It signals that you got the 400 ci engine that was a maintenance nightmare. What you want is the next gen with the 455 that was under-rated at 370 hp and 500 ft lbs.

    Interesting responses.......

You like the scoop because it makes you look cool. Awesome. Some fitted lightbars. Super.

Interesting how many people actually like it just for the cosmetics though. You got a stuffed sock in your jocks? LOL to each their own ;) I was hoping someone had fitted some cool supercharger or something else that the point of hood scoop could be used for. Sigh... At least we agree Tacoma's are awesome!

Imo, it makes an underpowered truck look stupid. Scoops are for muscle cars, and trucks.

My buddy bought his 2017 trd pro new, I have never been in his truck in any off road excursion. But always wondered if it has any effect in view when climbing or cresting. The scoop seems low enough to me that it should not affect views even on climbs. Also, the different angle of the scoop, does it affect glare into the cab? I am going to ask him. Bit for thoe that have experience it, on a daily basis, does any of this matter.

It is just a personal design decision....like wheels, stickers and paint color. Chrysler was one of the popular brands that had many models with non-functional hood scoops but changed the looks of the vehicles.

You mean MORE aggressive. The 3rd gen is already the most aggressive Tacoma yet. It looks like an angry Samurai.

The 1st gen looks like Jim Carrie, on a crack episode with fake teeth smile and sad eyes.

In the 60's and early 70's american car hood scoops were mostly functional in some way. I had three cars that had functional hood scoops

I did a scientific experiment on the ability of the skewp to pull chicks. I duct taped some depends over my skewp to hide it. Drove around for a week and no panites were thrown at my truck. In fact it appeared to disgust the females that looked at it.

Then I removed the tape and depends to once again reveal the glorious skewp and drove around the same route for another week. Boom...panties were falling like rain.

This should settle the skewp vs no skewp debate once and for all. It is functional unless you don't want to attract chicks (not that there's anything wrong with that).

    The science is settled.

    This.

Came to say it drops panties. Even the panties of the Taco boys who say they don't like it and think it's stupid.
