Very true! The hot mess that is Toyota's calibration is forever burned into my memory, no need to revisit!

I drove a new corolla on a recent business trip. The drivetrain tuning performed flawlessly. The taco tune really is a headscratcher. But, somehow, they keep selling. The consumers are yet to force their hand.

    The new corolla with CVT?

The CVT tuning in it is total junk. Toyota does not know how to tune transmissions. Put it in manual mode and control the shifts it jerks like hell

Yes, but it was also a hybrid model. For sure the electric motors were helping things along. Maybe flawless was too strong a word, but I was pleasantly surprised by how effortlessly it reacted to pedal input. I did not put it in manual mode.

I am amazed at times that the 3rd Gen tune came from Toyota.

Downloaded VF tuner and put in my master key and got this. Not good?

I assume it isn’t a master key issue because that is it the error shown on their instructions that they said indicates a master key issue.

Also, it says I have 5 credits. Is that correct or should it say 9 at this point?

For what it's worth, I closed VF Tuner and reloaded it and did NOT get this message a second time. Still not sure what happened/is happening though.

PapaRee’s 4.0 is da bomb. 2.0 great, but if your looking for that aggressive performance feel, 4.0 will not disappoint. Torque and acceleration has a smooth but aggressive feel and be ready for the tip-in. I actually had it pulled back a smidge and its perfect. PM him and give him a couple bucks for all his time if can. Tested it on some steep hills and she pulled great without all the shifting. ECU currently on 04B33, better than 31, OV 2.0 Awesome and 4.0 will keep you smiling.

Assuming the Windows error message that I posted above isn’t an issue, I’m still confused about a few things.

I got 5 credits when I used the master key on the VF software. When I licensed my truck by plugging it in and hitting the microchip icon and then Prepare ECU, it took 4 of the 5 credits.

If I try to open the 04C20 base file (calibration?) that is in the folder within VF Tuner, it wants 4 more credits, which I don’t have.

Beyond that though, do I even need to worry about that if I want to flash an already tuned 04C20 file that I have? Can I just skip the whole calibration file unlock thing that wants 4 more credits and jump right to loading up the tune file I want by clicking the chip icon, then “Prepare ECU”, the “Select Calibration File” (choose the tune file), and then “Calibrate ECM”? Maybe I’m misunderstanding a step.

I just went through this so I can help a bit. First, only having 5 credits is a bug. I emailed support and they got me another 4.

Second, I only was asked to unlock my ECU when I opened a tune as well. Everything I’ve seen indicates that you don’t need to unlock an ECU unless you’re going to open and modify a tune. I think this is why several pages back @OVTune said that you can use your 8 credits to flash 2 VINs or you can flash your VIN and unlock your ECU. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. I didn’t realize this until after I unlocked my ECU. I’ll probably never modify tunes myself so I think I could have kept the extra credits to tune someone else’s truck.

yes. The whole first part of licensing the truck and using 4 credits worked fine. Connected great.

if you submitted a ticket it will get taken care of.

FYI for everyone, when you guys constantly post here to get my attention, PM me here, all it does it slow me down.

If you have an issue, submit a ticket, it will get taken care of as soon as possible.

I'm not trying to be mean here but half the reason it takes so long to get to peoples tickets is because I constantly getting PMs here, questions here and have to "figure out" who you are from it. It's a total waste of time.
And also PMing me here asking me about what tune is best, what is the price of of vF tuner, etc etc ........
Starting today if you PM me or post here asking for help, I'm not even going to respond. Submit a ticket, we will get it done. it's literally impossible to work efficiently this way.

ALSO go to our forum. Forum.vftuner.com
there is more specific information, video walk throughs, etc.

We will be posting another / newer update to instructions again this week.
After that, if you need help, Zendesk. It will be the only way I respond to anyone going forward.

I am logging out of here now.

ok let me see if I get this credits thing

with the program and tune pack, I get enough credits to do my 2017 AT 04b04

if I want to flash a different 2017 AT I just need credits 4 for the vin and 4 for the ECU id?

if I want to flash a 2018 AT I need to buy a whole other tune pack? plus credits?

if I want to flash a 2017 MT I need to buy a whole other tune pack? plus credits?

I think i just answered my own question but if anyone would be nice enough to verify that would be cool

so it looks like once you have the tune pack and the program all you need is credits. so when you want to flash a truck with a differenct ECU ID you buy the credits and email zendesk with the new ecu ID to get the files for it?

If you want to flash a truck with the same ECU ID as yours, you only need the credits to unlock the VIN for that vehicle.
For any other ECU ID, yes, you would need to unlock that ECU ID, unlock the VIN, and buy a tune pack.

No, new ECU ID would be a different tune pack, which you would have to purchase.
