but as far as dimensions, it should be similar and fit an f150? I know he’s just wanting to put it on for a few months until he can buy a real lift.

 

so here's what I would do if I was him, look up on rough Country site or wherever you bought it from, look up the part number for the same part for the Tacoma and for the F-150. If the rough country spacer part number matches then you'll know it'll fit.

 

Looking back on your experiences, what things would you do different today, knowing what you know, about your lifts?
And if you could start clean, what lift would you get today?

I am running 265/70/R17 Duratracs. Wont be doing any extensive wheeling, but looking to build a solid overlander with a RTT.
Want to keep as close to as is since the ride is so nice.

 

Since you are looking and carry some weight, you would best be served by avoiding block lifts. For your rear, some deaver leaves And maybe some upgraded Bilstein shocks would put you in a good place.

As for the front, since you're not running a bumper or anything, any coilover with the spring rate of around 600 lb, such as OME would be a good bet. It'll keep the lift at 2 in or a hair less, which means you don't have to break the bank with UCA's or anything else.

I have a 2018 SR5 that I'm wanting to eventually put 17's on. I don't do much off-roading, only forest service roads here and there.

What is the best direction for me to go if I want a 2-3" lift?

If you just wanted to swap tires and wheels, you could put 17-in wheels and 32-in tires on your truck without touching the suspension.

Sounds like you do some light off-roading, so you're going to want to avoid cheap block lifts.

You can get complete suspensions from old man emu, eibach, and toytec for little under 1500 that include front coilovers, rear leaves, rear shocks, and all appropriate hardware and instructions. In that range you're looking at around 2 inches of lift, which isn't a ton but it definitely makes a difference with these little trucks. It's also a small enough lift that it won't compromise it's drivability and you shouldn't need expensive control arms etc.

 

Thank you! Our other truck is an F-150 so I like the higher ride height. I definitely want a lift, but nothing too crazy where I start messing with control arms, ect.

It's good to know I can fit 17/32's on stock suspension.

 

The other thing I forgot to mention is if you carry loads constantly, you want to look at a slightly heavier leaf spring depending on which suspension you're looking at. If you don't, sticking with light or medium duty will suffice.

Also, add Dobinsons to your list of affordable suspension research.

At what lift should I be concerned about cv angles? I want to do a 2.5 front lift and 2 rear lift on my ORLB.

 

2.5 is about the concensus for needing UCAs.

 

So at 2.5 it won’t create bad cv joint angles?

 

That's about where you're pushing it. Each truck is a little different, but general consensus is at 2.5 or above, you're better off upgrading your UCAs

 

Apologies if this has been addressed already. If I want to add a 2” lift to my 20 TRD OR, is there anyway to keep the Toyota Safety Sense system functional and the OEM grille? I don’t fancy the TRD Pro grille.

Yup. It'll still work.

Worst case is the dealership can recalibrate the front sensors with the lift and no problemo.

 

I'll apologize in advance if I missed a post with this information but I have a question which I haven't seen addressed. I like my Gen3 2019 Tacoma dc or. I don't care about changing the "stance" or "look" I wish to maintain OEM reliability and I don't want huge tires which will increase tire weight and upset the trucks gearing. What I do care about is excellent suspension for mild trail driving. I want very good quality both in durability and performance. I have added rock sliders and will add a front bumper for clearance and protection. I will likely upgrade the skid plates. I have a Diamond back HD bed cover. I haul gear but not a tent or "Overlanding" stuff. I occasionally pull a small (1700 lb loaded) trailer.

an inch or two additional clearance would be helpful and I expect to upgrade my Duratrac 265/70 to a 265/75. My strategy isn't to reduce costs but to improve my vehicle for my use. So far the truck has been fun. Lowering my tire pressure to 20 psi takes away enough ground clearance that I notice on the trail. I want that clearance back and want performance on washboard roads and trail debris. Not jumping or driving fast just enjoy good suspension performance and I think my stock Bilstien suspension could be better. Front adjustable coil over shocks sound like what I want.

Sounds like you have a good plan. Any lift you go with, whether it be Toytec, Eibach, Dobinsons, OME etc, You keep it under 2 inches or right around 2 inches you wont upset much of your drivetrain and still keep your daily drivability of your truck without having to spend tons of cash on other upgrades to make it function.

If you want to keep ride quality, skip lift blocks or coil spacers. Go with complete coil over setups, and actual leaf packs or add a leaf in the back.

 

Thank you! So, riddle me this, why would a 1-2" or any lift increase tire clearance? If I add an inch or so of height I also want additional suspension travel of that amount. To me, the place the suspension bottoms would dictate tire clearance. Am I missing something? A local dealer told me I was wrong but didn't explain why.

 

.....because you're then sitting 1-2 inches higher off your axle, thus gaining you 1-2 inches more space for your tires to fit into....
