Interesting, all my family in Kansas City area calls it pop. From what I remember that's what we all called it in Texas, too

pop is a midwest thing, texas was coke. Or soda. I think.

Looks like you're right, I think we just called it 'pop' when we lived in TX because we were from Missouri.
