Toyota TRD OEM lift kit

Is this kit suitable for offroading at all, or is it just for mall crawlers?

 

Definitely think you could off road with it. You can off-road with stock truck. I wouldn’t go jumping your truck though

Why would you need a new clamshell bushing? And axle seal?

 

Is this related to the needle bearing on driver's side failing after lift, thus needed ECGS bushing replacement? I've wondered if this is also needed with this TRD lift.

 

I would do it. The trd lift is nothing more than the Bilstein 5100s. Its not if but when. If you do it, then why bother with the oem lift and warranty issues. It won't be long and the warranty is over with. Skip the high over priced kit and do the 5100s.

 

Yeah I'm curious now, if a Toyota tech suggested it maybe it's for certain it will fail with any sort of lift?

 

It is for certain that the dealer is making money off of warranty work billed to Toyota that may not be required.

 

With the contradictory info out there, does anyone know if this will work with a TRD Sport DCLB?

I didn’t see anywhere mention about adjusting the headlights as part of the installation. I presume it has to be done since the front is raised an inch in relation to the rear.

 

If your lifting the front and rear it not an issue, it's not like your doing a 6 inch lift.

 

You are changing the factory rake with a 2"F and 1" R lift.

It is an issue. I've done the same amount of lift (2"f/1"R) several months ago and the headlights shine high.. have received high beams back at me from oncoming traffic.

 

That’s my thinking, the rake change has a greater impact on the alignment than the lift. If the front and rear were lifted equally than aim would be impacted less than the rake change.

 

I like our dealer mainly because of my SA. Not sure I’d trust the parts guy to find a specific part unless I did the work for him… finding the part number.

I’d have to disagree, any change should require headlight adjustment. Even lifting both front/rear and even if only a couple inches- a little lift will still be more drastic at distance. IMO

For instance, granted I only lifted the rear but that 1-1.5” rise led to almost a foot at distance that my headlights were pointing down. Vise versus for lifting the front only would point headlights up. Even both front/rear, although not as drastic will obviously raise the truck and headlights will likely cause some blinding (I would think a slight down adjustment necessary)

 

Mine didnt need adjusting with 2 inch lift 1 inch rear.

geometry says your lights are aimed up (saying your headlights were properly aimed stock)

 

salesmen took this pic to show me lift installed.
Then tells me the grille insert came broken so they're sending a new one today.
I guess the entire grille needs to be removed for install?
I hope to take possession this week sometime.
Maybe today, maybe tomorrow

I was too
I had a 2010 TRD sport DCSB
After spending 2k + on Toytec ultimate lift kit 3" lift with LR UCAs and Dakar leafs then 500 for install I instantly had drive line vibe issues.
Installed shims to solve that.
Then the 3 CV axles I went through and the lower control arms wore out.
I also did a complete bushing replacement on the UCAs and had to replace rear shocks and front shocks.
Pretty sure the majority of this happened before or around 35k on the lift.
I'm not doing any crazy offroading and really just like the look of a slightly lifted and level Tacoma.
Oh yeah and you get a pro grille.
I'm paying $1995 installed.
So this seemed like a good move for me.
