    My kit, I did not.

    I just went to Curts website and looked up my unit

    I think the 3rd gen Taco's need to have a separate wire for the battery, Sorry for the misguidance OP

    **Straight from the install guide**
    Step 8 Route the black power wire from the vehicle battery as shown on the included CME-PCL-INS sheet.

    I do,
    I knew you had a 3rd gen, but never figured that the tail lights would be so different you needed a separate power wire. I've done that style of trailer wire connectory thingy 3x now. 2009 Nissan Versa, and my 2009 Taco, 2011 Subaru outback and none of those needed additional power.
