Dang you would think (boating) in a truck would be enough of a hint to catch the sarcasm.

The title was originally something along the lines of “Pffffttt Toyota reliability” but even still, the sarcasm was evident.

I worked in the oil industry for about 5-6 years and would often have guys tell me “I love Tacoma’s, but they are just useless” generally I would tell them “well that 3/4 ton you have parked outside that has never towed a trailer or hauled anything in the bed is pretty useless to me as well”. People just think if a truck isn’t eighty seven feet tall or have 400HP that it’s “useless”.

I wondered if this type of repair could have been done to get it going. Old GM's, bang on the darn thing with whatever you could find, might get lucky and get a few starts out of it.
The old truck I wheeled many years ago was a manual transmission and after water crossings I had to get the clutch good and dried out after water crossing or it would act wanky.

Same here, Chevron on/off for 25 years. Always got the comment on how cute my 85 4x4 Toyota was.

We definitely tried that trick and it didn't work in this case (it was filled with muddy water/sediment internally).

After taking it apart and cleaning up as best we could, it started right up and got me home.

A 3rd Gen is just like a boat, the two best days of ownership are the day you buy it and the day you sell it.

Did it have a back cover you could remove and get enough cleaned out? I just watched the first video and half the other.
    That's a :101010:trail repair.

Edit; I went back and watched the video and seen you had taken it all the way out. Oh, and perfect backing to toss the logs and not the beverage cooler..worthy of another:101010:

You’ve got a manual, never need a tow if the starter fails. Push down a hill and let the clutch out in 2nd gear.

Yup, probably coulda just sprayed it out with WD40 as Benny suggested above but that was my first experience taking it apart and figuring it out on the fly.

I tried to link the vids at the relevant times, but they're pretty entertaining if you watch the whole thing. David (@mutilatedjak) is a wizard with the fancy camera work and editing. Sub his YouTube channel - he's got some great vids from our adventures!

Those are my best amigos there, I think that was our 4th or 5th annual off-road trip together. Always helpful and patient when shit goes sideways.

That last sentence, always a good thing. Keep up those annual off road trips man, that's good times and lifetime memories.
