If you were to guess a mileage, what would it be or how do you decide when to rebuild suspension and droppers?

I do my lower leg service myself pretty regularly because it always feels so nice when I’m done. Dropper, not so much.

I’m assuming since you’ve done it a few times it’s a pretty speedy process?

If the manual says 100 hours between service and on average you bike 10 mph that would mean you need to service that part every 1000 miles.

Personally I rebuild every other year and have never had any issues.
My cousin went 4 years on his Santa Cruz and besides it riding like shit nothing was permanently damaged.
And a friend I ride with occasionally won't do any maintenance until a part fails, so far after 3 years he has only replaced a chain on his $5000 specialized stump jumper.

Wow, that's impressive though if you think about it.
I wonder how old the oils inside the suspensions has to be to start noticing a difference.

Depends. Most of the time the degradation is so incremental you don't notice. Then you do a service and you notice a night and day difference.

I’d say it is so gradual of a decline it would be hard to notice; however, when you service the lowers you will immediately realize the difference it makes.

So, I watched this video. My only question is will a small 1/4" socket maybe 8mm deepwell cover the air side of the fork lowers when tapping it with a deadblow hammer.

    See video at 2:20.

Man I used all kinds of work around a when I worked on my Fox 34 and 36. I used a belt sander to make a socket chamferless and a pvc pipe to get the wipers in. I probably did what you described to knock the lower out as well but it’s been a while.

my internet went out. and it was an unusually warm day today. SOOOOOOOO. I took a long ride. Partway through my planned route, noticed my rear was getting low. Had to pump it up as I rode as hard as I could to get back home. 10 miles of hard pushing and intermittent air refill. fun.

I really don’t like how they use hours, most people track miles not hours.
Personally; 500 miles for a lowers service, 1000 full rebuild. I don’t replace wiper seals on lowers service and typically only clean the foam rings.
With the coil sprung fork, I notice less performance decrease over time than the air forks. The oil isn’t usually very dirty, but it’s not clean either. If I’ve been riding a lot of desert/mud/dusty trails I’ll do it sooner. It takes like 30 minutes, it’s enjoyable time and it’s cheap.
Droppers? Other than cleaning and lubing under the upper collar, nothing.

whats the difference between a lower service and a full service.

when i did my fox, i thought it was just a lower service but it felt like i cleaned everything but my damper. is the damper included in a full service? doesn't that need nitrogen or something?

    I'm really inconsistent. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.
