Looks nice! I went with "color coding" my 300blk upper vs 556. FDE=300BLK, black is 556. As for mags I found some labeled rubber bands for them. Works nice for keeping supersonic and subsonic loaded and knowing which is which lol.

Thanks! I considered doing the color code thing but my rifles tend to get the krylon treatment so it would get hidden. I plan on using metal mags with “300” spray painted on them to keep the mags separate of my Pmags and lancers, I think that and 1 or 2 of the caliber bands on the rifle should alert someone that’s not me that the caliber is different.

So my ballistic advantage 556 barrel isn’t dimpled, a quick google says that the nitride finish used is extremely difficult to drill through, I have access to a drill press but would need to get a dimple alignment tool, should I dimple for the Aero low profile gas block or take it to a smith to get a pinned block installed?

Interesting. When I was a child we lived in Florida right on the Indian river you could see the assembly building. I lived there during the lunar missions. Our neighbor across the street worked on the legs of the lunar module

My Grandfather was an Aerospace Engineer and worked for Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage/Long Island NY but was at the KSC for weeks/months at a time. We lived in Cape Canaveral out by the port till 78 then parents moved to Tampa. My Grandfather who worked with Thomas Kelly on the Apollo lunar module was transferred over to the Shuttle program to help design the tail and wing sections in conjunction with Rockwell who had the contract in 1970/71 I think it was. I have a lot of memories running around KSC and watching up close rocket launches from the grandstands outside the VAB and launch control building.

We were there late 60’s to ‘74 so you and I were there at the same time. Funny and we are close to each other here also.

Here is a loaded question. I have been looking for something different, more compact. Use is closer range varying from home defense to under 100 yards. I’m trying to decide which is most bennificial each has its plus and minus. Either a 8” Barrell pcc or a AR 556 pistol?

Next build is either .300blk 7.5 suppressed or a 9mm 7” barrel suppressed. Specifically for home defense.

I just built a 5.56 pistol 7.5” with just a flash can and it throws like two foot fireballs lol

Got the new “pistol” build semi-finished today, I still need to install forward assist and the ejection port door as well as decide what I’m going to do about the gas block (and then install CH and BCG), but I’m pretty happy with how it looks.
I’m not sure how the TLR-1 will do being mounted even/forward of the muzzle device though, that may end up moving.

I think it will be a good “mid tier” pistol, Aero stripped upper, BA barrel, Aero gas block, Griffin muzzle device and sights, Larue MBT straight bow trigger, MOE k2 grip, joe bob outfitters LPK, and PSA lower, the BCG is from “Right to bear” and is a rebrand WMD, I haven’t heard of them but it’s supposed to be true mil-spec and nickel boron coated so we’ll see how it does.

It’s miserable, this is my buddy, a former 11B who was bragging that he didn’t need ear plugs because they shot 50’s without ear pro at training, he had decreased hearing ability for about 24 hours after this.

I grew up in Homestead Florida. My Dad was a retired Army and civil service employee he ran the Radar and Hawk missile repair shop on Homestead AFB. Dad was a real space rocket fan he drove me and him up to Cape Canaveral several times to watch launches. We moved to Alabama in 1974 when he retired from Civil Service.

It’s a small world. I remember in first grade we were taken out on the playground to watch a day launch. I always liked the night launches best
