Dropped it off at the shop, driver rear wheel bearing is literally coming apart- metal shards are all over. They're on the abs sensor too-which is why the abs light is on, so they'll replace the bearing, inner/outer seal, clean the sensor & get it back out to see if they notice anything more going on- specifically the braking clunk. Will report back in about 4hrs to see what they say.

So the metal shavings from the bearing chewed up the wheel speed sensor. They could get one in the morning for $259+tax, same price quoted when I called the dealer, but Toyota of Cool Springs has online parts ordering- not sure why it's so much cheaper, but I'm going to pick one up at the dealership and drop it off at the shop tomorrow for $175+tax. SCORE! That softens the blow a little bit.

Once they get that in, they'll be able to shake down the front end binding/clunk.

    *UPDATE*

Got the truck back from the shop last night. Feels brand new. After the driver wheel bearing/retainer, inner/outer axle seals, ABS wheel speed sensor & brake adjustment- that takes care of all the issues.

The ABS wheel speed sensor must have been locking the brake up or causing the binding clunk upon quick slow downs. Good to know!

Thanks for following along, I'll post up if any issues arise. Stoked to have my truck back.

What kind of airbag set up do you have in the rear?

disregard. Just saw your setup in another thread. How was the install and what are your thoughts on that setup?

I pretty much have my bed filled to the brim every weekend of the summer and also tow a boat. Looking to level it out and limit a bit of body roll when I’m loaded down but also don’t want to limit suspension travel too much. I think that’s where the Daystar cradles come into play but not 100% sure on that.

Super easy install, handles added weight really well. Definitely helps with body roll, and in our case, when hitting bumps or dips in the road- before these the bed seemed to dictate how the bounce/after effects handled, with them installed it feels like one unit all together, with the front end leading the suspension. The daystars have always caught the bags perfectly for me, I've never had any issues with them & highly recommend the combination of those two products.

Not a kit, but the Advance Auto drums/shoes & a springs/hardware. Pretty easy job- just do one at a time & keep both drums off, so while you're reinstalling one, you can look at the other one to see how it goes back together! (you probably already knew that, so sorry if that's repetitive)

That’s good to hear. Do you ever take the camper off? If so how does it ride?

Yep, camper is off now & will only be on there for summer camping now. It’s a stiff ride without the 1,000+lbs in there, but I’m used to it. The bags are supposed to be at either 5or10psi minimum, but I’ve got them at 0. So it’s the Dakar’s + aal providing my rigidity. So once I’m done moving, I’ll throw in a couple sandbags & my toolbox again to mellow out the ride.

Ok cool. I have a camper shell on at all times with a few hundred pounds of firewood and gear in the bed so it’s never unloaded. What shackles do you have? I have dakars with AAL and 6” shackles. Not sure if those shackles would make a difference especially with the daystar cradles installed.

I’m definitely leaning toward installing them this summer if I can muster up the courage to drill into my frame lol.

I also am learning on the job. What worked for me for the brake adjustment was sticking a screwdriver in that little oval to pry the adjuster up and spin the wheel with another small screwdriver. Up tightens & down loosens IIRC. While your wheel is in the air is best when adjusting, so you can spin it & hear a tiny bit of friction, then back off just slightly so the shoes don't need to travel that far.

One thing to note, the Advance hardware/spring kit comes with multiple length pins that go through the backing plate that the spring pushes into- match your old ones to the new ones. I was trying to install too short of options for those pins on mine & took me a while to realize they included multiple sizes- I just thought I got the wrong kit.

As far as parking brake- I've always battled that too. The shop I took it to got it dialed great! It actually works now lol.

Another tip I learned- not sure if it applies in your area, for factory parts there's one dealership here you can order online at the dealership's website & pick up there for about 40% cheaper than calling the order into the parts dept!

I forgot what shackles I've got, I think just the standard greasable ones that come with the dakars- maybe 4"? Yeah, it's a bit scary drilling the frame, but totally worth it!

If you ever figure out the parking brake let me know! Mine doesn't self adjust, so over time as my brakes wear- it becomes useless.

Try giving them a call, I ordered mine over the phone- and he just asked if I wanted the spring/hardware kit as well. I also couldn't locate it on their website just now.

I'm new to this site, I went on to ask the question of replacement of my RACK AND PINION and was swept away by my dream adventure TRUCK,...we think alike, better do it before you get married! Love the truck, and the great pictures you took. Any ideas on the RACK AND PINION- best place to purchase it, and tie rods used /
    new?

CBI sliders, ADS extend travel with compression adjuster coil overs, 9” Bilstein 5125 rear shocks, Icon Tubular UCA, Alcan custom leafs, All Pro Apex bumper and skids, NWTI rear diy bumper, 295/70/17 Cooper St Maxxs and nitro 4.88s.
If you don’t want to go OEM replacement....which is recommended. I’d. Go with https://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/toy...t-by-low-range-off-road-tac-sp-1gen-urpk.html
