Is it worth the risk???

I want to do a lift, but im debating if its worth the risk. I am now thinking that i might get new wheels/tires and leave it at stock height. I want to here what you guys have to say about this....and maybe see some pics if you've got any of a stock height tacoma with new wheels and tires. This way i can take the money i saved on the lift and buy some wet okoles

its always worth the risk, if you 4x4 you get more clearance, more flex etc..... it just plane looks better also. IMO can't go wrong.
most dealers won't deny warranty... i can't see any risk

 

Vibration, cv angles, alignment...etc

So will my cv angles be alright if i just do the billies at like 1.75?

 

I just did my lift, and I got no vibes, only a slight one in the floor board from my front diff/cv's.... But Im hoping it will go away after everything settles and wears in, just like my buddy tacoma did.
But then again every truck is different.

If your so worried about it, I would just get some bilsteins and level it out.

just the 5100's. there adjustable up to 2.5" lift.

your cv's will be fine at 2.5" lift.
I didnt have a vibe until I got it closer to 3" of lift.

 

For what it's worth, I talked to Marco at DownSouth Motorsports with these same concerns. He said at 1.75 to level the front, there is nothing to worry about. No UCAs, no diff drop, nothing but the 5100s.

That's the overwhelming opinion I have seen here, as evidenced by the responses.

I have done a lot of research regarding this issue, and a very few think that anytime you change from stock height there is a risk involved.

But the majority says no problemo.

I'm doing a 1.75 if my friggin' truck ever comes in

Do i just need the front or should i do the back too?
if i do the back can i keep the stock leafs?

 

The guys on TW say that the ride really improves with 5100s all the way around. That's my plan.

As for the rear, there is a Toyota service bulletin (TSB) to add a fourth leaf to the back of some Tacos. Your 2007 may only have three and fall under that category if you bring up the need for more stability in the rear (towing, safety concerns, etc.) when you talk to a dealer.

The 1.75 should level the front out and eliminate the factory rake.

For the record, I am just parroting the opinions of much more knowledgeable guys that have posted on this site and have the actual experience with these issues.

I just wanted to post what info I had to help you make an informed decision.

pm me some pics of your rig when you get it all done. I am very interested on your plan. I am like the OP, somewhat wary about opening another can of worms if I lift. I'd like to have the 3" lift but if this gives me some headaches, I would like to back off to 2.5 or maybe just go with 1.75 like you are doing.

I am not sure how noticeable it will be to have 3" or 2.5" of lift.

My truck only has the three leafs, but i went out of factory warranty like 3 months ago I emailed the dealership, but im feeling like im just gonna have to buy the AAL

 

I wouldnt call is risky, but be prepared that it may make noises and stuff that you didnt have before. Many many people on here have only put on the bilsteins and have the irritating whine now. If you plan on blasting the radio, driving like a bat out of hell and having tires that have a loud hum all by themselves, then it wont bug you at all. If you enjoy the smooth ride that comes with a new vehicle then it may bug you a bit.

I have had many trucks and lifted at least 5 of them, all had quirks once they were lifted one way or another. Some immediately and some down the road. But if you like the look of it or need the function then you will put up with the downside, such as vibrations, noises, worse gas mileage, tires wear uneven, tires rub, or even that tires cost more. Some of these can be mitigated and it may cost more money.

Just do it with those expectations and you will be happy. Also when I was younger I thought it was great that my exhaust bellowed and tires howled like crazy, now Id rather like to have fun in my truck without yelling back and forth.
