What length bolts did you use?

I think it also depends how good a job you did grinding everything off the axle, and the exact tolerance on the axle tube. Based on the difference in effort between the two sides on @TwistedTLM4 's truck I think we ran into a mixture of both.

You measure from the bottom of your frame (where the bump stop hits) to the bottom of the bump stop (worst case is the bump stop compresses completely flat). 9 and 3/4" in the above picture.

Then you set your lower tabs so that the shock has the same (9 and 3/4") of shaft showing. This will ensure that the bump stop does all the work limiting up-travel, and not your expensive new shocks.

I typically measure from metal to metal on both the truck and the shock, meaning any rubber bump stop in the shock will also be included in our 9 and 3/4" of travel. This puts the shocks at a little risk, since that rubber bumper could be compressed, but also buys me another 1/2" of down travel.

Do you measure with the suspension fully drooped or at ride height?

I always do ride height since it's not an exact 1:1 ratio. The closer to bump, the better.

Just depends on your bumps, lift, and leaf pack thickness. I just went and measured and I have 7" at ride height.

I have 6.25" shaft showing and 7" between bottom of bump and frame. I know it's setup correctly though because I broke down my leaf pack when I did it. Like I mentioned earlier, it's not an exact 1:1 ratio because math and whatever, plus every relocate is a hair different based on shock location and angle.

If you just set it to collapsed length + 4" then you'll be fine, that's erring on the side of caution. Worst case you lose a tiny bit of droop but you'll never need to worry about bottoming out your shocks.

4"-ish sounds about right for an OEM leaf pack. 7"-ish is abour fight for a setup with a shackle flip or a good aftermarket leaf pack.

The reason I like this method of setting the shocks is it works for full droop, full stuff, or anywhere in-between.

That's the right measurement. But your leaf pack looks pretty flat.
