Hmm. Well, switched to .024 wire and did some more testing, I had much more success getting penetration at the root of the weld.

    @koditten

Hey, I saw you are setting up a plasma cutting table with CNC control. My cutter is CNC ready. Can you give some details like bought kit or assembled parts, bed size, lessons learned, estimate on costs, etc? Or point me to a post if you already have done so.

I have a Harley I am going to be selling this Spring. Seriously considering rolling the money into a table. Not 100% yet, but considering it.

if you’re using a 120v welder, that’s the only size wire I’d use.

Oh, fyck! I just got called out!

Please don't make me do the math! I don't wanna know what I got into the thing!

With that said, I know you can buy one cheaper than making one. I do not regret making my own from the ground up.

I will estimate I got a bit north of $2k. I'm not counting the plasma it the iron, already had that.

My water tray is getting made presently, I don't know what that charge will be.

I hear you. I rarely add up any receipts. Better for my sanity to just estimate how much I've spent.

I saw this kit. $2500 price was about what I expected. If you hover on "Products", they also have a $1500 dollar kit, of course with reduced features.

    https://www.langmuirsystems.com/pro

I have a friend who just finished one for his shop. I am pretty sure he took the same route as you. I'm gonna pick his brain too.

I really don't have enough use for either kit to pay for itself. If it's bought with the Harley sale money though, I can justify by saying it's hobby money put back into a hobby!

@Shmellmopwho has a Langmuir system, he will weigh in. As far as I can tell, it seems to be printing him money.

    I made my table 4.5 x 4.5. it does take up space. It's a love/hate size.

I have the Langmuir crossfire original smaller table. It’s great. Especially if you’re using it as a hobby. They don’t use proprietary parts for any of the hardware, so all of it is easy to come by if you need to replace any hardware. And their customer service is great. All these things below cut out on my plasma table. It’s not the biggest table but depending on what you plan to cut it may work for your needs. It makes me money with the Hi lift slider adapters and the Fill plates for the rock sliders I build.

If the crossfire Pro was out when I bought my table, I would have gone straight for the pro for only $1000 more but I’m still happy with mine

    Too big or too small?

I am in the very early stages of building a 50"×50"

It's the right size, just takes up a lot of space.

    Thanks for the advice.

I am pretty sure the Harley is sold, so I could be placing an order in the next few weeks. I have the space because I have a 50 x 40 garage, so I may get the Pro. Just gotta weigh that against some other items I want to buy.

Overkill is wasted money, so I am going to make sure and take a few deep breaths, and not place the order with a BAC above the legal limit!

I did mine with the intention of unloading 4 x 8 sheets of iron directly from the truck or trailer. Let the machine cut them into 4 x 4 pieces. I figured it would save on handling.

I went 54" wide since I had no idea how much actual "x" & "y" travel I would actually have. I freely admit I went into this project blind.

    Your 50" will be fine.

The Fusion 360 is an amazing program. It is kicking my ass, but I give it an hour a day to learn the thing.

It's like learning a foreign language. Once you figure out the proper steps, things kind of fall into place.

All I saw in your message was “50 x 40 garage” and I’ve decided I hate you due to jealousy. Good bye

Just kidding, that’s awesome you definitely have all the space you’ll need! You’ll have to factor in the cost of a plasma cutter and an air compressor with enough CFM to run your plasma cutter comfortably. I really think you’d be happy with the Langmuir table but definitely do your research and make your decisions without a bunch of alcohol in you like you said!
