Air Dam Removal (Good or bad idea?)

Do you have a pic of that? I’ve never heard of that.

 

I trimmed about three inches off the bottom of mine.

 

I can take a pic. I did remember that I was in an accident and had the front bumper replaced. Maybe they gave me the sport bumper. Right now I’ve decided to leave the air dam on. As opposed to the videos on YouTube, mine is connected by clips which are not as easy to deal with. I feel like I’m going to break something. I’m going to get the OME 2-inch lift (light duty) and see how it looks then. Maybe I have the dealership remove it and put on the TRD skid plate.

 

I found a pic of my truck before my accident. No air dam! Never noticed the body shop put one on a couple years ago until I put on the new wheels. It’s put on by clips and since I don’t have a clip removal tool I’m at the body shop and am having them fix their mistake.

 

Mine was put on with 10mm fasteners. I guess they changed it to clips after my year model (2016)?

 

My 2016 Sport had those push tabs. I just needed a flat head screwdriver.

 

Mine may have had two, one on each end, but I know the majority of it was held on with 10mm fasteners. Maybe they got stingy after 2015 when they saw all of us removed the ugly things anyway.

 

Does anyone ever have a 10mm "handy"?? LOL!!!!!

 

I suppose I just never understood that joke, I guess mechanics are the disorganized types. I have 10mm for 1/4”, 3/8” and 1/2”, all in both deep and shallow, and impact rated and chrome. If hindsight was 20/20, I rarely use the chrome sockets, so I could have saved the dough.

 

I have all of my tools organized, can't stand wasting brain energy looking for tools when in the middle of something.

 

my 19 uses the bolts with a 10mm head.

 

The way I look at it is that I only have a set amount of time a week to wrench on stuff, I don’t really want to spend 3/4 of that time finding tools.

 

Agee 1000 percent, dont know how people get anything done being disorganised!

 

I’m also a tool hoarder, so if they weren’t organized in a tool box I think my wife would catch on....

 

Day after I bought mine I took it off. Looks so much better without it. Haven't really tested the MPG since I removed it so quickly after purchase.

 

Same. I got home late that night and after work the next day I took it off. It’s still in my parents attic, their house is on the market. Maybe the new owners will have a third Gen Taco too.

Edit: My parents are selling a 2016 Tacoma Air Dam, $150,000 ...... comes with a free house.

 

My Off Road looks way better with it off with my bigger wheels. The spoiler sort of followed the curve of the original wheel but did not look like it fit with the bigger wheels. Funny. I ordered the lift because it looked off but now it looks fine. But I decided I’m still getting the lift!

 

I'd left mine on because I'm a cheap bastard and heard it helped with mileage. But I've decided to do my own changes (truck's at 15k)....it made taking the skid plate off a PITA. So I removed it and I don't think I'm going to put it back.

Edit: someone said they put the screws back in place...good call. And it'll hold those little fastener clips in place.

 

Yeah, I think it looks alot better.
