Does anyone else have a console
Vault and keep a pistol in it? I have a little makarov I want quick access to. I don’t want to use a holster but I don’t want it sitting there loosely

has anyone tried the magnet type hold I have seen for under the dash. Then just reach in and pull away from the magnet?

my brother has a f150 and it’s crazy how little our center console is

So in an emergency scenario you:

    • break eye contact to look down towards the console,
    • open the console lid
    • Fumble for the keys to the console vault if you have them - or - enter the combination
    • Open the console vault
    • grab the gun
    • re-aquire target with your eyes
    • aim
Or, if you want quick access, you could keep it on you. :cookiemonster:

    I don't disagree at all.

However drawing from your traditional carry location can be difficult when seated and seatbelt on. Advantage though is you know where it is at and can draw by feel.

ya that all makes sense except I have a 3 year old who is always wrestling with me and playing.
That also assumes I would keep it closed and locked while driving. How about keep it unlocked and ready and then be wary of surroundings

If you're bound and determined to not carry a pistol while driving, skip the console and mount a holster somewhere on the drivers side of the truck--under the steering wheel, next to the cupholders, or similar.

I carry appendix, so it's usually pretty accessible, even while driving. A sling bag could work just like a chest rig while driving, though.

Side note, if you are in Texas, those magnet car mounts are not legal. Even with an LTC, your pistol must either be in a shoulder or belt holster, or concealed completely. I am an LTC instructor and heard that determination straight from the mouth of the DPS Officer conducting our training.

I use Safariland QLS plates and forks on my holsters. I mounted a QLS plate underneath the steering column. I always keep a handgun (either a G19 or a G43) in a QLS equipped holster mounted in my pack, so I pop the holster out of the pack mount and put it in the steering column mount. When I leave the truck, I either put the holster back in my pack, or carry on-body in either an IWB or OWB holster that I always keep in the truck.

You need another pistol in there to keep the other one from moving around too much. Two holstered pistols and a monocular keeps everything snug. :)

OP does have a valid point though. I'm a legal LTC holder and can carry concealed, however I cannot carry at my place of work so it must be locked up in my vehicle if I plan on carrying. That being said, once I am off property I can carry again so I too, am looking at lockbox solutions such as the console vault. So any insight as to the feasibility of this product would be greatly appreciated. For the record, I carry all the time. Out with the masses, check. In my front yard mowing the grass, check. In home watching SpongeBob with the kiddo's, check. It's only locked up when I'm sleeping or in a scenario where I cant carry (read from the beginning of this post). Ok, enough fun and return to seriousness. What are some alternates to the Console vault?

I don’t use one but I’ve heard a vault with a cable lock around the seat bracket is popular.

Hopefully this isn't happening while driving.

My boss has seat covers in his Tundra where you can store a gun on the front of seat. So you essentially reach between your legs to get the gun.

Have the tuffy console vault fits the mp shield with the holster double sided taped to the side.
