I suggest Woolwax. It's like Fluid Film, but thicker to resist being washed off as easily.

Avoid rubberized undercoating. Maybe if it was brand new (and that's a big "maybe"), but I've seen what that stuff can do to frames, first hand, with my last truck. In order for it to work, you'd have to make sure you have zero rust already, and no other contaminants on the frame (especially moisture). It's just not worth the risk when there are much better solutions out there.

Another thing: motor oil, gear oil, transmission fluid, etc are more old wives tales that don't work that well in reality. There are a few YouTube videos out there testing that stuff out and showing it to be ineffective.

I took the bait at the dealership and got the "super duper last for ever undercoating" when I bought my truck. Not sure what it is but I have it in writing that any issues with rust or rot is their problem to fix for as long as I own the truck. Will probably never be an issue, but one less thing to worry about.

Yep, but it's actually ATF and Acetone mixed 50/50. I keep a pump-spray bottle of it around. Shake before use, like Italian dressing. Works!
Back on topic, go with a FF, Woolwax, ect, type product. The rubberized stuff....

All the guys who work in the bush have slip tanks in their boxes, they spill fuel, spill hydraulic oil all the time moving leaky old cylinders etc..... boxes don’t seem to rust as bad as everything else on those trucks! I spray my dump trailer with whatever old oil I have around and thin it with diesel so it’ll spray. I even tempt fate and use an electric paint sprayer!!!
I wouldn’t spray it on my truck tho! I’ll let ya know in 10 years how the Krown spray worked!

POR is a bandaid at best. Fine if you have a mess of rust and want to essentially super glue over your frame to get a little extra life out of it. Meant to go right over rust. Anything touching clean frame is going to peel off down the road if not prepped just right during a harvest moon at 12am specifically. I joke but the prep process is super touchy with this stuff if you do it in an uncontrolled environment.

when you say ziebart it changes everything

they don’t really spray the crevices they just walk along the underbody and coat it. The most venerable, hard to wash spots are exposed. Plus, I guarantee they don’t do that well of a job cleaning the underbody prior to install. And whenever they do touch it up yearly they still don’t clean it throughly. That’s where I think any complaints will come from. They spray undercoating right over existing salt/moisture.

I tried ziebart once won’t do it again.

I thought of the cleaning aspect before I took my truck in. Got on my creeper and scrubbed the frame. Also, my dealership has a partnership with them, so if the coating fails and Ziebart tries to deny coverage, I have that to fall back on.

Just had mine done with fluid film in SoCal. We get a lot of dust on the road and random needles and stuff so wanted to protection for that stuff to either bounce off or slide off. Has been working well so far

Yep. I had the dealer undercoat mine before I took delivery. I know there are better products for less but if it ever fails this is on them.

Best stuff i found so far has been that cosmoline rp-342. Trucks been out all winter in the slush, snow and salt. Not even a hint of this stuff washing off. If it were the fluid film i normally used in the past...most of it would of been washed away by now with light surface rust beginning in places.

I applied Fluid Film last fall. It was the first time that I have ever used it and seems to be holding up well through all the snow and salt here in Allentown, PA. I have taken it to the car wash a few times and I try to avoid spraying the Fluid Film directly. The spots that I have sprayed seem to still be coated.

I prefer fluid film because it does wash off. I totally clean the underside of my truck each spring. Run truck until late fall clean underside wire wheel any suspect spots touch up with rust oleum dry a day or so then apply fluid film works like a charm have done this on several cars for years in the rust belt no issues so far.

If you use a lawn tractor to mow your grass, fluid film underneath the mower deck works great to prevent rust from moisture that gathers under the grass clippings. Imo, cosmoline works best, but from experience i'd only apply to a new vehicle that has a clean frame. I don't think its the hot setup if your encapsulating rust.
