I may order a powerstop drum kit for mine tonight. I have been looking for the 5th gen T4R z36 kit, but having trouble finding it with the calipers.

I really like this setup, 4 wheel disk brake with built in drum with shoes for ebrake. Should stop the Samurai really good.

This swing out may not last on my truck. I secured it to the tailgate and now it shakes the whole rear end haha it does not like 100# of tire up that high. I’m about to throw it in the truck bed or build a tire gate, but I’m doubtful that will even work now. I have to keep what little bed I have. Any suggestions?

How did you secure it to the tailgate?

I've seen anywhere from $75(pull-a-part) to $450 on the sites I've been searching. I found a white one in TN for $200 that was in good shape. I've also seen one for $350 that was wrecked

Like any sane person, I welded a bracket with a hole to the tailgate behind the plastic up top and a bracket with a hole right behind where the tire mounts. When it’s closed I secure it with a lynch pin. Maybe I’m going a little crazy shaking the tire back there by hand, but I think all that weight is causing some weird jitters in the truck bed area...

Well if I end up making a tire gate and am happy with it, you can have first dibs. I just need to make extra sure I won’t want to put it back on before I sell it haha

If it were me, I'd get rid of the tailgate...….I mean.....how useful are they really?? To be honest, I'd keep it just incase you want to go back...…...just being honest :anonymous:

But I do appreciate first dibs. I'll find one eventually :D

I gotcha. With a bracket going to the tailgate, the swingout is attached to the bed and frame. I would not connect it to the tailgate, as that might cause issues from unexpected movement

first make sure the flex you are experiencing is it from the bumper, if it is brace the bumper internally. If the flex is coming from the swingout, gusset it to the hinge more and add more contact points from the swingout to the bumper when it’s closed and put rubber pads in there to “spring load” it.

If it’s neither of those, it’s probably your frame flexing and you just have to box and brace the frame if you want to stop movement.

Good point. Backing into a tree would be no good right now haha. I think the bumper flexes a bit, the swing out flexes a good bit and the frame flexes a little bit. I also think the worn cab mounts are exacerbating the appearance of the tire moving.

I think if I can build a tire gate that mounts to the bedsides and maybe connects to the bumper, while keeping the wheel as far in and low as possible, I’ll have a better shot. If that doesn’t work, back in the bed it goes.

the bed and cab move independently of each other and I think the bed is hard mounted where the cab is on rubber bushings. But don’t quote me on that.

you can get the swingout solid, it’s just a trial and error thing. Took me a while
