Im not sure how someone can decide they dont like it in 14 miles. Lol. Thats like 20 mins on it.
All the 90s cars arent cheap anymore. Rollers are like 3500.

When I was at the range day for my MSF class, I saw people who were absolutely miserable after only 20 minutes or so when we were doing the beginner exercises (clutch, duck walking, stopping).

Some people just aren’t cut out for it. 14 miles would have been an eternity for those individuals who were in my MSF class.

Finally had a day nice enough to take a scoot somewhere worth taking pictures yesterday. Also my first trip on a full sized freeway and doing 15+ miles in a single stretch at highway speeds. It's definitely not a bike for long trips but that helped me gain some confidence that I will be fine using it for my commute once things warm up a bit.

    None... yet.
When I was looking to upgrade a few years ago, there were 636's and CBR's out the wazoo for 3-5k. Now the only bikes that are reasonably priced are cruisers. Some screaming deals on the Japanese ones...

Just looked again and found this little guy - https://harrisonburg.craigslist.org/mcy/d/harrisonburg-kawasaki-klx/7285756118.html. That seems like a fair price but tell me if you think differently! I'm going to call and see if I can't own it by this weekend!

Beautiful area. Lived there for 4 years. Loved motorcycling to Hurricane Ridge, around the OP, Whidbey, Chuckanut drive up north, Highway 20 and Granite Falls/Darrington. If you work full time not a lot of motorcycling can get done from mid October until May due to the rain and darkness. Loved jumping to the front of the ferry line too! Ride safe.

There’s a whole dynamic to splitting lanes that a lot of people don’t know about. Some drivers will intentionally close the gap on you to prevent you from passing, while others are so oblivious to their surroundings that they don’t realize they’re riding the line and preventing people from passing. Oblivious drivers are nothing new so as long as you’re careful and alert you should be fine. It’s the first people that you have to worry about. I’ve experienced it first hand and have had several people close a gap on me for no reason other than they don’t want you to pass them. Especially when cars are stuck in traffic and driving 15 mph on the freeway, it takes road rage to a whole new level of douche. I tend not to ride aggressively because I know in the end I’m the one taking a greater risk than someone in a car but people are still unpredictable. I had someone close a gap on me once so aggressively that I didn’t have time to stop. Locked my rear wheel but I was able to keep it straight enough to avoid a collision. I did “rub” against their car as I passed- enough where my thigh wiped dirt off their car and my foot peg kept some metallic green paint as a souvenir. I think we both learned something that day.

Wtf! I never understood people who close gaps on motorcycles. I guess they’re everywhere though. What do I care if you’re passing me, I’m clearly not getting anywhere any faster in a car.

I avoid freeways like the plague.

However here in SE Texas there seems to be an abundance of those damn dump trucks. All I wish I could do is pull to the front of the line at stop lights so I can get away from them. Quite unnerving sitting in between those at lights.

Granted I live in LA, where we have more freeways in this city than some states have in their entirety. Traffic means something different to different commutes so I’ve learned a certain etiquette of the road here that may not translate to other parts of the country. I honestly would have a hard time riding if I couldn’t split lanes but it’s how I learned to ride 15 years ago and it’s engrained in me by now. Then again, I couldn’t really fathom riding in an area thats wide open and has no traffic since that’s like seeing a unicorn around here. The first couple weeks of quarantine were perfect for riding here since the streets were empty and I could ride “the speed limit” in places that I’d normally be driving my truck at 5 miles an hour to get through. It was like that scene in I Am Legend where Will Smith is driving the mustang at WOT through downtown NY. Not exaggerating: I used to commute up to 2 hours in 5 mph traffic to get to work 40 miles away. Driving through that everyday, people get grouchy when they see motorcycles pass.

I could get there in 30 min on my scooter.

I live in a college town, a nice place, but 150 miles or more from any interstate. Don't visit, it could screw up your whole view of time and distance.

There isn’t even a need to lane split in Montana.
