The only thing slower than a marlin crawler box is their production line. I like the JD Fab for nothing more than I would like to get it on my truck before I die or the frame rust away.

I have their lower pivot, double shear, just waiting on their steering gear box and then gonna tube it up when I cut up the front end.

Me? Nothing. The previous, a lot.
Just received the Steeda Tensioner in the mail and I’m excited to throw it in the truck, but before I get too excited is the pulley size good to go or do I have to swap the pulley out to an appropriate size. I ask because it feels a lot bigger than the original, however, I can’t compare because my original snapped in the middle of Denver somewhere. :annoyed:

Bigger is better. A lot of us, myself included, swapped the 50mm double bearing roller onto our upgraded tensioners.

Unless I misunderstood your version of bigger... you talking bigger in width or bigger in circumference?

    Hi all!
    2009 Tacoma 4.0
I was directed to this thread by another Tacoma World member. I've used the search over the past few days (here and Google) and haven't found my answer. I can't skim 1770 pages either, so I'm going to ask this question and hope that someone chimes in.

I've pulled the trigger and bought a Magnuson S/C from URD. It comes with a Bully Dog flash device. Does anyone know what tune is inside the device? I've heard bad things about this tune (by "heard" I mean on this and other forums). Specifically, some complained that it ran really lean in boost! I'm in Canada at 2200 feet above sea level. I want a good tune. I have an NA OVTune in my truck now and love it, but will need another for the S/C. When I bought the OVTune, there was an option for a tune for my truck with a S/C. Can't seem to get an answer as to whether they are still available. Can't seem to get an answer from Toyota Canada about a, possible, TRD tune.
I've reached out to URD with these specific questions and have received e-mails back with no answers to my questions, just a suggestion to upgrade to the UCON, which is 3X the price.

Is BD tune crap?? WHY? Has the "issue" been resolved? Is OVTune still available for 2nd gen Tacomas with S/Cs? Are there better options?? I've left e-mails or voice mails with Toyota Canada, OVTune, VF tune, URD and even contacted dyno shops. No one is replying. I bought the S/C yesterday and it won't ship for 10 days. I've asked URD for the option to have the tune excluded from the shipment and have the money for it refunded, so it isn't sent without definite information about its safety in my truck.

This is giving me anxiety. I can't just install a tune that could fry my engine. I'm not looking to mod it out any more than a 2.85 pulley and a stage 2 clutch (ordered), so there will be no additional boost in the future. Anyone with experience with current BD tunes, please respond...

    I'd really appreciate it!!!

    Stay safe, all!!!

    Cheers from Canada:canada:

    Barrett

    Yes. Bully dog is garbage.

I believe you can send your ECU to @JustDSM and he can flash a TRD tune for you. Or you can remote tune with HP Tuners.

A lot of people here, from my short time reading, use HPTuners to either self tune or flash the TRD Tune. There are a handful of people on here that can flash for you, which I opted for, and works great with the TRD Tune at 6,000 ft elevation.

my two cents is replace that tensioner pulley. I’m going through the ass pain right now of fixing my fan and hoping my radiator isn’t leaking. Not to scare you though :pumpkin:

How does it feel compared to the stock tensioner? The Steeda feels beefier for sure since it’s reinforced but the rest of the tensioner is still made of cast aluminum which I’m now skeptical of since mine broke at idle.

So I am looking at the stock tensioner a little closer and noticed the is dead stopper and wondering if the tensioner just got maxed out to that point to cause stress on the arm? Pure speculation. F9C88A3D-9012-4E98-B2C6-F7F9155F6A92.jpg

Stock tensioner is still on the truck, however, this tension is beefy!

@Bartlett18 welcome! Congrats on the blower purchase. This thread and the active contributors are/will be invaluable.

    Cliff notes version:
    1. Dont buy the bully dog tune. Get your $ refunded on that item.
    2. Skip the trd supercharger flash from Toyota since option #3 below is available.
    3. Purchase HP Tuner and contact @JustDSM for a ecu reflash for the supercharger.

Read the thread below on HPTuner as authored by JustDSM.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hptuners-the-tacoma-faq.705981/

I'm assuming that youre using the handheld tuner from Orange Virus Tuning. OVT did have a Stg1 and Stg2 tune for the trd supercharger but unfortunately, the hardware (handheld) is obsolete and no longer supported by OVT. They wont be paying much attention to the 1GRFE until their 3rd Gen twin turbo system and VF tuning software for (1grfe) are mature.

You should shave off a good chunk off the dead stopper on the Steeda as it is possible those are the cause of some of the OE tensioners snapping. You probably did max yours out which caused the OE unit to fail.

Screenshot_20210304-194519_Telegram.jpg@12TRDTacoma sorry I forgot to take pics of the armor today. This is the front skid plate. When I snap one of the front you'll see where it sits. I chopped the dropdown random stock bar off and plated the frame holes.

The boxy part towards the bottom in that pic has sections of tubing in it for the bolts to run through.
