Which college town? My brother used to coach in SW CO. Loved to visit him, but it was rough knowing that getting to Denver was going to take longer than getting from Denver to home despite that being the longer distance.

    He was at Fort Lewis....

I'd just love to be able to filter. No real need to lane split in my college town, either. But filtering to the front at a light would be uh-mazing.

I would love to filter as well some times. We have a weird law around here that lets motorcycles run lights on occasion, and I did it this morning. We can run a red if the light fails to turn green after a “reasonable time”. I do it on green arrows and on the light by my house often. Wait for the clear road, run that red...

We have that here, too, Washington state says "one complete cycle." I always get guilty pleasure endorphins when I can legally justify running a red.

The law here is reasonable time.... so that varies by how much I overslept. But to be honest, it’s Kansas, our whole state has like half the people that live in Los Angeles county so it’s not like there is really heavy traffic to deal with. Which is why we will never get lane splitting. Also we don’t have helmet laws for anyone over 16.

We can do that after one full cycle. I may shorten that by... a little if there is clearly no traffic... and not always on the bike. I don't understand how traffic light technology can be so unresponsive to actual traffic conditions, but not much burns my @ss like sitting at a light that refuses to change with no one else around.

We have that in PA as well - they call it “ride on red.”
I know of quite a few intersections in my area where the sensors in the pavement don’t detect a motorcycle, so I’ve missed quite a few green arrows and have had to (carefully) run through the red.

I think PA refers to it as a "dead red" and is primarily intended for making a left turn at a red light. I have a 5 mile segment of interstate on my daily commute and when I get off at my exit on the way to work there is a traffic light at the top of the ramp where I must turn left. The inductive loop sensor there absolutely cannot recognize a motorcycle or even a lot of small cars so the light will never turn green. I thought I saw something when the law was changed mentioning 2 minutes and clear lines of sight allowing safe passage so I usually make a little mental note of what time I hit that light in case the local popo might not be up on their own traffic laws. I can't begin to count how many times I've turned left through that red light.

I can't imagine PA ever allowing filtering or lane splitting. Even if they did the sheer volume of inattentive, brain dead, cell phone addicted douche canoes who have somehow acquired a driver's license would make doing it a suicide mission at best.

    Same here in VA.

Always considered myself to be an observant driver but getting on a bike increased my situational awareness HUGELY! Now I have a hard time keeping my rage in check since I notice just how little most people pay attention to guiding a multi-ton, high speed object down the road.

Anyone here using a A-stars Domino Tech Jacket? Revzilla calls it a hoody but apparently its more softshell. Elbow and shoulder armor with a back protector pocket. I'm thinking of picking it up as a Spring/Summer/Fall commuting jacket. It doesn't scream "I RIDE A MOTORCYCLE" and I wouldn't feel ridiculous walking across campus to a meeting in it, I don't think..

Thoughts? Anyone have any recommendations on a light-er weight, non moto-looking, non-"riding shirt", non-hoody jacket?

That's really sleek looking. Would be great for an adventure rider or enduro. I wouldn't personally wear it for lots of dedicated street riding but I've also never seen it in person.

i cant make up my mind... help me spend some money

ktm tips the scale 50lbs less than the honda plus it puts out more power so... PWR hands down ktm wins

however it costs 1600 bucks more, so I am not sure if the power to weight ratio is worth my money and honda loyalty let alone justified by my skill level of riding...

the dealership is about an hour away and my dog is sick requiring 24/7 attention so my time is limited to take a drive and swing a leg over each bike

I do want to get this done with before the spring bike buying frenzy starts drying up all the local inventory

anyone wanna chime in and give me their .02

youtube tells me the ktm will be better off road and the honda better on road, I personally expect to ride 60% on road and 40% off road, but I also have a cbr so I dont care all that much about the honda being better on road.
