My 18 and now the 19 both sounded like that, 28000 miles no issue on the 18 only 4000 on 19 so far

Annoying, but unfortunately normal. Direct injector noise isn't just confined to Tacomas/Toyota.

Yea I drove a frontier for a long time and that thing was quiet. Then a friend of mine got a good position at Ford so i got an F150 at a good price and that thing didn’t make a sound. I wanted to go back to a midsize and finally pulled the trigger on the Tacoma. Going from those to this is a big difference so I just need to adjust to it I guess lol

If you watch HBO's "Homeland" esp 2, you will hear a GEN3 Tacoma making precisely that same sound while idling.

Sounds very normal to me. How was the bad air pump diagnosed?

I did. They changed a pump the 1st go around then kept insisting that nothing else was bad because the computer wouldn't throw a code. I had them bring around a new one and it made wayyyyy less noise, it sounded normal. I was getting no where with the service department. I actually ended up talking to the sales manager. I told them what was going on and how disappointed I was with the vehicle. The engine wouldn't turn over ever so often as well...didn't happen all the time but every once and a while it would start at the first try. They ended up working with me and canceling my lease and buying the vehicle back and I picked up a 2020 OR model in a manual he had on the lot. This one doesn't have those crazy noises just the normal noises these tacoma's make. I've been driving it for about a month now which is when the other one started having these problems so I guess we'll see how this one turns out lol.

It's the fuel injectors cleaning themselves

My 2.7L with almost 110K miles makes a bit of ticking noise (been that way for years), but it's definitely not that noisy and tends to go away once the engine has warmed up...

I’d be concerned if one day my truck stopped making that noise. I think by this point I hear it in my sleep.

If it stops making the ticking noise take it to the dealer something is wrong with the injectors.

This is my knocking noise on my 2019 Tacoma SR5, sounds like loose valve or piston. Dealer mechanic said it was Drive Belt, SMH!
