It's coming from the top area of the crawl box, as if my seal had gone out again. My concern is that I jb welded my seal so it could not push back. So maybe something else now? I'll do some digging next weekend... I'll just pour more oil in and let 'err rip.

I was beyond impressed with how nice low range was, even in two wheel drive it worked perfect for what I was doing. Did some serious tire lifts while crawling around in 2wd!

Well.... Just took about a quart of gear oil right now in the transmission side and gear oil is coming out on top of the crawl box.

We all know what that means :(

Maybe the fifth time is the charm.

Can I qualify forsome sort of record for having their transmission out more times than anyone else up to this point in 2021?

I'll pull them apart next weekend and see what's up. I'm wondering if the deal moved or tore? It fit kind of easily in the tube, which is why I jb welded it. Wondering if this is the problem and it moved.

Correct-using the great stuff 90 minute from permatex.

I'm thinking it's the seal though because it fit some very easily in the aluminum spacer tube thing, even though I jb welded it, it may have spun and leaked again hence the transmission short on oil.

I ordered a 54 OD seal instead of the specified 53. Won't know until I get it completely apart again...

Damn son! That sucks! This thing is fighting you like a motherfucker. You'll get it eventually.
You definitely have more patience than me, I would have just taken it yotmasters or somewhere to do it for me by now.

Alright guys, looks like camping Ocotillo truck haven next weekend!
I am doing the seal again tomorrow. From doing the seals on my dirt bike cases and many other things, I knew this thing was loose but decided to go full send anyway. I have no regrets because I had such a blast running through the trail last weekend. Totally worth it haha.

    I'll keep you guys posted!

That is a very good question. I will have to check. They look okay on the outside, but something my be plugged on the inside. I think my whole issue is seal based, but I will most definitely check them.

You are on the right track, it's pukeing because of the trans seal. Messing with sealing the shifter better and the breathers will just result in blowing out another seal and ultimately trans failure again, ask me how I know!! All my crawl boxes from 2008 to now weep a little from the shifter and it's base, when it was dripping bad it was when my trans output seal blew like yours and filling the crawler. Is your input shaft the right size? Maybe try putting a bunch of grease on it, installing the crawl box and removing it to see if the seal is even contacting the input shaft/in the right place.

    Faaan flipping tastic.

54 OD seal is too big and 53 OD seal is too small. Going to break out the sandpaper.....

Now this is an interesting oddity since these are meant to be installed together. Have you gotten any support/recommendation from the manufacture?

I can see the witness mark of where the seal landed last, so I know it is good.

Since the coupler tube is recessed about 14mm deep, I ended up shoving two 7mm seals in there so there is no possibility for one to cock sideways on me like the last one did, which I saw upon splitting the cases again. Aside from that, the JB weld actually held when it was fully dry. Unfortunately from the resistance when assembling (and the JB weld was not bone dry yet) the seal kicked out and was angled a bit. After my last run, the friction tore the lips and the inner part of the seal which is when it started leaking.

With the two seals back-to-back there is no room for it to cock sideways now and sits perfectly flush. I ended up using another 53mm seal. I just don't like how loose it fits. It must be the brand I am using... The original seal that blew my trans for the 23mm shaft fit perfect. It needed to be tapped in as any seal should. If this doesn't work I need to see if I can find a different brand seal or see if maybe trail gear or LRO has some seals.

At least on the bright side I've become really good at splitting my transmission and crawl box and really good at making it not leak from the seams anymore LOL. I believe I just completed attempt #5.

Inchworm isn't around anymore, but I am thinking about contacting either TG or LRO and see if they have any feedback.

Guys! Once again....no leaks! Gave her a good wash down and will be daily driving it to work from San Gabriel through Los Angeles for the rest of the week to see if that seal holds.

Ordered an oil slinger shifter guard thing for the gear driven case. Didn't know it was supposed to have one, but that wasn't my direct problem though. Also replacing the old cracked OEM transmission mount as well. I hope this all works out.
