Is anyone out there running the new VF tune pack on 04B31. I installed the VF tune software and now I am just waiting to decide if I should flash with my current tune or see if the dealer will update to 04B33 before I have the tune pack uploaded for me

I don't have a 2019 AT, but I have flashed and chatted with several folks who were 04B31. 04B33 is thee way to go.

    @G8R_Taco , jump on in here. :D

I know I can probably do the TSB update myself but I downloaded techstream from a link on the forum and not sure if it was the correct one. I assume the dealer should just do it as I am under warranty. I know some people have said the dealer couldn’t mimick the problem so gave them a hard time about flashing the new TSB and if that turns out to be the case at my dealer can’t I just pay them to do it?

Yes. Any version of TS will flash it up for you, for free.

Yes. The dealers should be flashing the TSB as customer satisfaction. It is very hit or miss though. On my side, I didn't want to change the positive opinion that I had with my dealer and just flashed it up myself.

If you go that route and get denied, there are a bunch of folk in the Feelers thread linked below that would help you out.

Dealers typically bill 0.40hrs on the Work Orders. I've heard of quotes to pay way exceeding that. In the end, it takes 10min to flash.

So I can just download techstream and do it myself. I thought you had to put in dealer info and stuff to activate it?

You will see that in @Shellshock 's step by steps in the ECU Update thread 1st Post. Mumbo-jumbo is fine for the dealer info. The activation key generator program is the tricky part. You need to have your antivirus program completely shut down for file unzipping until after TS is activated.

    Works like a champ.

Ok. I asked Matt at OV to send me the tune pack for 04b33 so I will try the dealer first and if they give me a hard time I’ll try it myself. At least I’ll be updated with the latest TSB before I use my credit for the tune pack. Plus I think it will make a significant difference.

It wouldn’t make a lot of sense to put the new updated tune pack on my old TSB

That sounds like a good plan.

It does. A lot of Tacos had a similar update. It was a big deal on mine (04B14).

You can't. Tunes will only flash if the ECU IDs match. Still, I think you made a good choice.

Thanks for all your input. Much appreciated. I think this is the right direction. Quick question though. You said 04B14. Is that something else? I want to go to my Toyo dealer and have them do the update but only the 04B33 to match the tune pack. I think 04B33 is the newest for my 2019 right?

I installed techstream ver 14.20.019 but it says this version is obsolete. Do you know anything about this?

It is out of date, but works perfectly. This is noted in the ECU Update threat 1st Post. But, just turn off wifi when you connect. It will give you a 30 use warning. If you accidentally try to connect while connected to the internet, that countdown will reset.

You have been so much help. Thank you. Just got my tune pack downloaded but want to see how the updated TSB does before I try any of the tunes

    You're welcome! Glad to help.

That is a good idea. It definitely gives some perspective since no matter how good the TSB is, Toyota still hasn't delivered the goods.

Less than 10min on an AT and about half that on an MT.

Yea I have an AT. Do I really need a battery saver when doing this. I have everything ready for the update, techstream. The TSB file and now my tunepack which I will try down the road.

It is a best practice recommendation. But as long as you know that your battery is good for about 30min of the radio on accessory, then you'll be fine.

Be sure that you headlights and seat heaters are off.

I’m going to pick one up before I update. I know my battery is good but better safe than a bricked ECU. Hey, thanks again for all your guidance on this. The last thing I want to do on my truck with a full warranty is F things up.

Oh and that version I downloaded is not a hacked version right? Just making sure because it’s the first thing in the checklist before updating
