I am with you. I get it. This will make us all safer but when I lived in Brooklyn, I may have been the world's greatest parallel parker in the entire city. In fact, I was a parallel parking artist. People would stand on the curb and admire my parallel parking. In fact, sometimes when I got out of the car after a careful parallel park, they would applaud. As soon as I got a car with a back up camera, I completely fell apart. I can't do it anymore. I am terrible. If I can't drive forward into the spot I am doomed.

    :)

Yeah see, I had no idea it was all in there just 'lying dormant' until confirmation it's 'safe' to utilize is reached unanimously. That's even more mind-boggling, really. That just means this tech isn't really new, as much as it's newly-approved.

Thanks. I just spit my iced tea into my computer screen. :)

No offense to anyone but I'd love to have him at a summer barbecue with my friends and family.

Dude. Anyone who has ever driven through the great state of New Jersey would beg for self-driving cars. And I say that as a New Yorker -- we are no better!

Yep - It is all good. Great for Lt Dangle's wife, Grandma, the kids, delivering packages, etc. - And me when I just need an appliance for those times when you just have the need for the most basic chore of transportation... I love it.

I would love to live in a comunity where all vehicles are stored elsewhere. More green space instead of streets... We could all have full use of our garage space too!

Well, I'll still have my old mini copper (1960's) in the garage for those special occasions when gear grinding and a bit of noise is desired!

    It's coming.

    """
During the vehicle’s unveiling, Rivian noted that its vehicles would feature autonomous capabilities. To enable this, both the R1S and the R1T are equipped with a suite of cameras, radar, ultrasonic sensors, high-precision GPS technologies, and two, cleverly-placed LiDAR. Scaringe described some of Rivian’s upcoming autonomous features, including a self-driving tour function reminiscent of the iconic SUVs in the classic Steven Spielberg film Jurassic Park.

“Let’s say you are in a national park. We can give you a guided tour of that park, you know, narrated and explaining what you’re seeing, but it’s like the vehicles are on “digital rails,” sort of Jurassic Park style, as it drives around the park. These are some of the features we’re gonna be showing over the course of next year,” Scaringe said.

automated driving will reduce driving related deaths down to almost nothing. what does the insurance industry have to gain from this? less accidents? you think that is what they want?

anybody who does not support this is either ignorant of the technology or ignorant to just how dangerous driving actually is.
