Recommendation on new shocks

Hi all,

I have a 2011 DC TRD Sport with about 45k miles which is pretty much in stock condition. While it doesn’t have a lot of miles it has been in service for over 9 years and I’ve noticed the suspension isn’t as good as it should be...gets a little too bouncy over relatively small obstacles.

I am starting to think about replacing the shock absorbers on all four corners and am wondering if you all would recommendation one brand over another? Are OEMs the way to go? I saw a post recently by someone who replaced with 3rd gen parts.

I’ll probably try to do the work myself.

Check out your sway bar links. Those thing snap sometimes.

 

You could probably pick up some 3rd gen Sport shocks for cheap off of someone here, they will work fine.

Finally getting around to the shocks. I don’t want any lift but I do want a more stable ride. From my reading I understand the bilstein 5100s can be set such that there is no/minimal lift. I’m torn betweeN OEM and the 5100s.

Also, any recommendations on where to get this done in Delaware/south eastern PA?

 

I wouldn't waste my money on OEM shocks. Bilstein is a far better option.

While they may not be the best for the aftermarket lovers, you'll get the same result as you did with the originals. Another 45k and 9 years. And they'll be budget friendly (as in cheap)

 

4600's are similar to 5100's slightly cheaper if you want to retain stock height.

Those old TRD sport shocks are tired and you'll be surprised at the ride quality with a fresh set of shocks from any make.

 

FWIW the stock shocks on his truck are Bilstein. Just not 5100’s.

What load rating tires are you running? Have you checked your psi lately?
