I’m gonna need one of those lil copper looking spacers to make it happen. I *think* I have on in my “leftover electrical parts” bag.

50lbs is a lot of weight. Talk them down on the KTM and go with that. It has a huge following for a reason.

Ended up buying it. We'll see how it is once I get it in, I'm sure I'll post it in here.

I feel like you are already leaning towards the KTM and if you get the Honda you will probably enjoy it but you will end up always wondering what could have been with more power and less weight.

@uurx you could get crazy and get that xr650l you have always wanted. Seems like they don’t lose there value so if you didn’t like it you could sell it. Crazy I know, $7k for almost 30 year old technology

    I agree. @uurx and if you’re financing it’s only an extra ~$30 a month.

i feel like you know me so well...
as much as I do love the xr650l, they dont have one in stock and it seems like no dealer with in 3 hours has one in stock either.
plus I would like something that never really gives me much of an issue turning on regards of temperatures and altitudes so kinda want to avoid carbs

the xr650l will always be on the table for me, but I think finding/buying one used with low miles and in decent shape is the way to go, they are very reliable and low maintenance machines, buying a used one doesnt worry me as much as something like the crf450rl or 500excf where the maintenance schedule requires closer attention

With the stats the Honda has, it should be a more impressive bike. I don’t have any first hand information or experience, but a lot of the reading I’ve done on it makes it sound underwhelming. If you’re going to have the expense and maintenance schedule of a performance bike, you might as well have a performance bike. My vote...get the KTM.

More importantly, I applaud your commitment to your dog. I’m a ‘like my dogs more than most (all) of the people I know’ type of person. There’s no friendship like it. Hoping for a good outcome for you and your friend.

i agree with the honda specs being less than impressive
my plan for at least the first year or so of ownership would be to keep the bike 100% factory stock so the ktm takes the win on that front for sure
I am all but certain the ktm will be it

the dog thing is fucked... little guy was diagnosed with lymphoma two weeks back, been an emotional roller coaster ever since but I know it is a fact of life so, will see how long we can keep him around without suffering, there is nothing like it though you are right, he has been so good with me it really has been life changing

looking forward to spending time in the woods on a bike clearing the mind, riding my cbr on the roads while being upset over my dog seems like a recipe for riding&trouble

I'm so sorry to hear that. One of my friends just went through it with his sweet little girl. I've got two dogs that we adopted at the same time. They've both slowed down noticably in the last half year. I'm having a hard time not forward thinking. It's hard for non-dog people to understand the joy and comfort that a life with dog brings. Unfortunately, they'll rip your heart out too. Try to enjoy the time that you have. And I agree with taking to the woods. I've always found peace in the solitude of nature. It's a great place/way to cleanse your mind.

Oh, man... Sorry that anyone has to go through that and I know no words can help re: dogs and their last days. Had a wonderful "rescue" mutt, Rootbeer, for 15 years. Watched as the last 2 years were a steady decline, to the point he could barely use his hind legs. It's now been a 18 months and I still miss him something fierce.

The only thing that really helped me was knowing that we gave him a wonderful home and he was so happy to be with us... Gah, my eyes are leaking now...

I just had to go through losing a pup two years ago and this past week again. By far the hardest thing I’ve had to go through.
One thing I learned is that you should make a list of 5 things that your pet loves to do. Once they’re unable to do 3 of those things then it’s time to call it. I know we want to keep them around forever but since they can’t tell you what’s wrong and some pets don’t even complain when they’re in pain, It comes down to a quality of life issue. Are they still enjoying their life or are we being selfish by keeping them around longer than necessary? It’s rough either way though.

I’ve been looking at comms too. I don’t ride in a pack so mesh networks really aren’t a selling point for me. I just want a basic blue tooth for nav and to be able to talk to my passenger/partner once she gets her own bike. I was looking at this one as the most basic setup without going straight to Amazon chinesium kits.
My only concern is sound clarity. I don’t care so much about having the best sound available just want to make sure we can talk to each other without having to yell or repeat things.

Very true. Unfortunately, I'm in a household with wife and two daughters. The "feelz" often get in the way of logic, especially when it comes to pets... :frusty:

I made the mistake with my first pet to keep her way past it was time. Looking back I regret that I made her suffer longer because I couldn’t say goodbye. Having to say goodbye is part of owning a pet and I make sure to embrace that when I think about my current animals and any future furry friends that join my pack.

Agreed! Don't ride with anyone, basically want music and GPS if needed.
