I didn't know this thread existed!

I've done a wide variety of camping. From really primitive to really fake. But since I got a TT, the majority of trips I've taken recently have been easy peasy, family camping (yeah, yeah boring I know).

I'me excited to see what other people have done

Per Request, here is my review on my 05' Kelty Tioga 5500 external frame pack.

I usually take week long trips so a bigger pack was desired for me. This pack is wonderful Have had no issues with it. I am pretty rough on my camping gear and I have had to make no repairs thus far on the pack. I like the external frames just because there are plenty of areas to anchor my things to and distribute the weight as needed. It can get a little uncomfortable after a little while if you do not pack fairly light. There are tons of storage compartments that make sticking tent poles, stakes in real easy. No complaints here! I love it. I will always buy the Kelty name. Very good products!

Got some new camping gear today :D

Got the E.N.O. singlesnest, slapstraps, and High Sierra 45 frame pack. Hopefully gonna be able to use 'em and my tent I bought a lil while back this coming week.

Here's my tent. It's a Columbia Mt. Logan 2 person tent. I bought it at Gander Mtn because it was discontinued/on sale. I went in there to buy the Eureka Apex tent which is fairly similar to this. Only used it once so far, but it did real good for myself for the 3 days at URE. I really like the two vestibules, the front one is HUGE and the back one makes a nice back door if you need to step out real quick to use the bathroom or whatnot. Considering I've never set up a tent before, it goes up quickly and easily. It says its a 2 person, but it would get a lil tight in there. It's got quite a bit of room to spare when I'm by myself. Its got a lil gear loft that clips to the ceiling, at night I'll set a small light in it to shine down when I'm moving around. Also has two cupholders that can hang down and two cargo pocket areas on both ends of the tent. For a $80 tent, I'm really happy with it and can't wait to test it out some more.

getting closer and closer to being lightweight! I am planning a trip in January. I use back Backpacking weights program (free) to watch figure out how much my pack will weigh. So far I am at 28 lbs with my hammock in there. Still looking at my items to see where I can cut some more weight/ replace items that are heavy with lighter weight items. That mess kit is next on the list. Ti wear will be on order.

If anyone needs a new pack, these are the best in the world, and at a better price than most of the major brands:

    http://coldcoldworldpacks.com/intro.htm

I have two, and I'm never buying any other brand.

They will do everything you ask of them. If you have any concerns about the design, call the number on the website. You will get Randy, the owner operator, himself. Not some Pakistani with limited English skills. An American in New Hampshire who will also be the guy building your pack.

Tell him what you plan to do with it. Tell him what you need it to do. He will make it happen, typically at no extra cost. Both of mine are custom modifications of his designs on the websites. He did not charge me any extra for them. If the feature exists he can add it.

I've dragged my 65L Valdez through the Cirque of the Towers in WY for a week, through several backcountry expeds in Tuolumne Meadows that were over a week. I've used my 40L Chernobyl on more day climbs than I can count...hundreds by now...in all conditions...rock, ice, snow...

My 40L is also my go to pack for backpacking trips as I don't need 65L for most of those.

They have never failed me. Like I said, I will never buy another brand.

just bought a Sea to Summit Delta Mug off of Backcountry.

I will post reviews on it when I get it.

Also picked up a Primus pot gripper off there. Tired of trying to mess with my pots of boiling water and burning socks and crap.
    getting closer to ultralight! :D

:woot: interested in what you think about the therm-a-rest. I need to get one for the hammock for my January trip. Or a half size air pad. Full one wont fit inside the hammock very well.

i can already tell you the z-lite is not what you want for a hammock......but you do want a CCF pad. the z-lite is a CCF pad, but it dosnt roll up like other pads, it folds up and is extreemly light weight. because youll be in a hammock, you are gonna want a pad that is fairly flexable. when i hammock camp i use a simple blue pad that you get from wal mart.....and if its really freakin cold ill use 2.

    this might help some: http://www.tothewoods.net/HammockCampingWarm.html

Ah. Thank you! This will be my first cold weather trip with the hammock. I am glad I didn't buy that pad. I was eye balling it on REI a few days ago. It generally gets to about 5* here in Jan. overnight so I will be buying 2. lol

Stumbled into this thread and had a laugh because it reminded me of my first camping experience with a friend.
Now I must say that as a kid, my family would camp all the time, almost every weekend during the summer in a pop-up trailer. Many years later, I was dating my wife and we camped out in a small three man tent overnight with another couple. We didn't have much camping gear, pretty much a tent and sleeping bag. It rained so much that night, water began to flow into the tent. We had to dig channels around the tents to divert the rain water away from us, pretty funny thinking about it.
Several years later, a friend invites us to go camping with his family. Now this guy loves to camp tent style and really sets up the "kitchen" area, below is my friend and his set up. Will have to admit, we had eaten better camping that if we stayed home. Tim cooked lobsters, homemade clam chowder, corn on the cob, etc.
