Fitting 35’s with minimal trimming NOW ADDING LONG TRAVEL AND 934 CV’s

Nah I know plenty of guys rocking 37s and wheeling hard.

 

It’s kinda like drinking and driving... I know plenty of guys that do it and get away with it, would I personally do it? Never

 

Well considering you're gonna build my new axle and I've got the 934s I'm not so concerned about it

Now to figure out a front stub shaft to run a high pinion ifs front 9"

 

With the right spring it should be doable. 6500 is a heavy taco, but not bad at all for an f150 or 1500.

You will probably need a wider spring to get the suspension to work right, I'm using a 3" wide Deaver pack they make for the f150 raptor, it's great. But the work involved in the project makes me wish I'd done links and full send the first time.

 

Have you tried wheeling yet though?

 

All I know is I had Tacoma diffs in my 81’ and I couldn’t get more than 500 off road miles out of them on 37’s. That was also with a 22r so a 4.0 Tacoma on 37’s is on borrowed time

 

If you have a 6500lbs taco I’d reevaluate your life. Putting 150hp to the tires with a 6500lbs truck sounds miserable. The ideal formula for an off road truck is 1hp to the ground for every 10lbs.

 

Oh for sure 37s on my 4.0 is what FORCED me to build a d60 rear on my last second gen tacoma. The front steering rack wasn't far behind. The front diff was fine after doing away with the ADD. That said, its doing ridiculous stuff like that on these trucks that fuels the innovation and awesome parts like the ones you've been making. I'm stoked to see what comes next and to hopefully place an order soon. It'll be 9" rear on my current tacoma though.

 

I guess the 22R's I grew up driving were not ideal off-road trucks! Lol. Maybe putting 85hp to the ground.

Sadly this is true however that doesn’t mean you still can’t have endless fun in an underpowered rig. But once you drive something with the 1-10 ratio you will never want anything less

I want you to go drive the silver truck in the dirt... you will be stripping you’re truck down so fast after you do

 

I'd have to start stripping myself in order to afford a build like that. Though I don't think I'd make very good money doing that.

 

I don't think it's possible to build a 1500lb tacoma or a 400whp 4.0 Tacoma though. Especially with cage and everything else.

My truck sits around 5700lb with me in it when I'm just wheeling. When we do a road trip we pack pretty minimal, but when we are doing longer road trips with bikes and surfboards and cooking gear, 2 people, dog, food, water, gas, it adds up fast. Last time I weighed my truck fully loaded for a trip I was dead on 6500lb.

My truck isn't a desert thrashing truck though. It sees more rocks than whoops. I want to build a stripped out trailer truck, but it won't be this one. All about that overland yo

Really though, the 4.0 is a great motor but underpowered to begin with. A well tuned SC would net 70 horse or so but for the 5k price tag that's a pretty expensive 70HP.

 

It's a great engine for sure, but just can't put out that kind of power to get 1:10. I wonder how light you could build a caged Tacoma on 35s. I doubt lighter than 5000lb
