I finally got all my light wiring through, after lots and lots of swearing and working the wire back and forth. Essentially had to wear the holes down, making them bigger with the wire. 10/10 pain in the ass.

Thanks for the reply! I went the other way. I took off more of the black jacket and fed the much smaller red/black wires through the holes.

    You missed the point completely.

Try turning up the red to the same perceived brightness as the white so we can continue this pedantic discussion.

Oh I'm quite educated. -6db from a 1000lumen source on a 30 lux background isn't going to magically not blind you. Nice try Bill Nye.

I appreciate the response. I would be cautious if I were you about correlating "not using optics" to being "flood". If you're using nothing but a bare COB then the diffusion pattern is probably pretty expansive, though that doesn't mean it has even diffusion throughout its range. Even if not using external optics, the COB itself has a layer built in to protect the die that serves as intrinsic "optics". I imagine this is part of the reason manufactures don't use bare LEDs and always incorporate some sort of external optics (lens, or diffusion grating) - because it helps them tune to what's desired.

While a flashlight might be classified as a "spot light" (narrow beam angle), my use of it was to exemplify the peak of any light source hitting the eye, which is what a non-diffused brake light would do. Even if you're at 120degrees, the peak is still going to be in the center without using an external diffusion method.

And to return to something I said previously, there are vehicles with factory LED brake lights that make no attempt to diffuse either. Hence, my dissonance for them.

Not sure if you are just trolling or you think you are somehow think you are the smartest person on TW.

It is clear, however that you do not think it is a good product.

Just a thought for you to ponder: most folks who dislike a product express that dislike by doing radical things like just not purchasing it.

Of course, if you are just trolling then I can expect some witty retort showing how your intellect is far superior to mine.

Either way, have a good day!

Started installing BD4-CAM version last night. Bad idea took longer then anticipated, with running wires for the relays and camera. Going to finish it up later today.

I have learned over the years when doing mods, repairs, etc. that whatever my thought of time it will take needs to be doubled. If it takes the actual time I first thought, then I call it quicker than expected and celebrate with a cold beer. :D

@MESO just to double check... is this compatible with a 3rd Gen DC? I can’t see why not. Thanks

Double cab uses a different 3rd brake light than access cabs (access cab uses the same as the 2nd gen)

    I second this statement 100%
I feel I could always complete said mod the second time around in half the time, but that second time rarely occurs if you do a good job the first:cool:

It does take some time to wire correctly, but it is SO worth it.

As far as the diffusion comments, would scuffing up the leds with some fine sandpaper work?

I have nothing against you dude. (Did I even say anything to you until now?)

Just wondering what's happened in your life to make you think that someone discussing a product in a critical way means they're trolling or have a superiority complex. My problem is I'm sick of seeing people and sometimes even manufacturers peddling half-truths online. This could be a great product, perfectly engineered for all I know, but from what I've read and pictures I've seen, that has yet to be proven (granted I've only looked at about 1% of the thread). To me it sounds like they slapped some bare LEDs on a plastic mold, verified fitment and said good nuff - no science involved. It doesn't help when my voiced skepticism is met with incomplete or just ignorant rebuttals, but hey guess that's the world we live in now (as proof, compare like ratios on our comments).

It's like you expect this forum to be f*cking LinkedIn - all positivity.
Learn to live with objectivity; it's ok to question things.

I'll say it again for those in the back: I voiced my dissonance because this is a product that affects other people, nothing more.

Hopefully this is the end of it.

@treyus30 Have you personally used a BD rock light or seen it’s output in person? Not arguing, just curious.

Has anyone had the door lock issue? Where the doors won’t lock with the key fob after installing the 3rd break light.

Are you using the stock ground in the factory light connector? If so, remove lights and ground them to the body. Are you running the KC or BD?

I usually don’t get involved in these silly semantic arguments and proofs of validity but all your questions, concerns and assumptions are actually in your statements, if broken down and looked at objectively. But that’s my opinion. If you wanna rant about bright lights, and things you don’t like in this world and throw some insults around too boot, I’d suggest starting your own thread:notsure::thumbsup: have a nice day:D
